This was a hard fight for Ortiz, he was taking flush punch after flush punch while not being able to land and at the beginning of the 4th Floyd uncharacteristically unleashed combinations. Ortiz was stunned from this, he came after Floyd with his own combinations, to fight fire with fire, but he was missing nearly all of them, then Floyd would come back landing more flush clean punches, ow frustrating and demoralising it must be to miss your own punches and get hit reasonably hard flush time and again. But Ortiz managed to land a good shot, came after Floyd again missing nearly everything, completely frustrated he lunged in with a headbutt, a butt worthy of a DQ, his 3rd or 4th headbutt of the fight.

Then he comes to hug and actually KISS Floyd the man he's supposed to be in combat with. Then yet again he comes to hug his opponent. Then as they come to fight he tries to hug Mayweather again. These gestures could only mean 2 things, first maybe he's shocked at himself that he's completely lost control because or second that he's a broken man (read boy) that's trying to show a complete act of submission, asking for mercy, begging to be simply jabbed in the head rather than be in a fight and take a beating. Am I reading too much into this, Ortiz has quit before and he mentally broke down here.

Mayweather came to him angry wanting vengeance for such a cynical foul, he saw Ortiz showing and came for payback. Afterwards I really think Mayweather felt unsatisfied about the outcome. He was in the process of putting a masterful breakdown on Ortiz, a work of art, that was prematurely ended. For the fans, a premature orgasm.

I was disappointed in Mayweather, as a fan, I thought it was a sucker punch initially, I've watched it 12times since from different angles and aren't completely convinced on that. Mayweather has a history of hitting opponents who think they can pick their own timeouts (Gatti/Mosley) and I think it's a case of that. If Mayweather really did trick him, I don't completely blame him after that terrible headbutt. BTW I had a feeling there was going to be some controversy and maybe a DQ from the opening bell, not too far off

YES ORTIZ GOLOTA'ERED HIMSELF AND HE'S A TREE (that's now been cut down)

Minus the flowerly erotic language, I hope. Do you argree that Mayweather was unsatisifed by the premature orgrasm? I personally think he looked very pleased.

I agree PP. I thought Mayweather actually sucker punched Gatti illegally, though, after having re-watched that recently. The Mosley-Ortiz one was legal. Ortiz definitely mentally was breaking. I'm not sure he was ever ready for the fight or that stage mentally. The guy seemingly can not handle adversity. Everyone that talks about the headbutting need to understand that he did the same to Berto, and he actually was punching in the back of the head in that fight too. That was when he was in control. At least he never apologized for it. Saturday was just bizarre. A WTF WWF kind of moment in boxing. Ortiz hugging and looking to his right almost embarrassed to look at the guy he tried to ram with his head. Cortez the other way, completely without any control of the fight really.

It's shame because Ortiz was having his most success in the 4th round. He landed a good right hook that had Mayweather reeling to the ropes. I thought he fought like an absolute idiot in general. He gave Mayweather way way too much respect. When he attacked, he seemed to have the most success even if he missed a lot. Mayweather can't punch back too much if he's on the defensive, as opposed to be in the center of the ring dishing out lead right hands.

Yeah he seemed pleased. He's going to retire again, maybe fight Khan and then retire. It's another paycheck, retire, Khan in whatever order. He's not fighting Pac so why should he need a tuneup?

A girl I chat to just called me and asked me what I did this weekend so I told her about the fight. 'Was it good, was it that Mayweather or Mayfeather' (her words, suprised she knew who Mayweather was or the fact there was a fight as we're in the UK and he's not that well known here). So I told her what happened and she said:

'Why did he do that, I don't know anything about boxing but why wasn't he protecting himself. No ones your friend in boxing'

Ortiz has always been dirty. Mayweather always looks to tag fighters when they aren't paying attention..Gatti. There's nothing more to be read into this. Not that Power PUncher's post wasn't the most erotic, emotional thing I've ever read though.

Goddamn greatest writer on these forums. Such detail, such unnecessary information, it seems irrelevant, but only to those who can't appreciate the finer aspects of storytelling. Well done, sir!

Mayweather held and hit Gatti - that was illegal (if he was actually holding him - that's debatable) and was why Gatti looked at the ref for help. When Gatti looked at the ref who did not intervene and Mayweather clocked him that was not illegal. Mayweather actually pulled that punch a little though

There's nothing too bad about a little cheating, so Ortiz using minor headbutts - illegal, but fine, I didn't notice on the first time of watching them. Using an Streefighter 2 flying headbutt, not fine, that's basically complete frustration

I'd disagree on Ortiz gameplan, I just don't think he had the skills to hang in there, when he came forward he'd miss countless punches and tire himself out

My wife can't understand why fighters wear gloves. She loved when Indiana Jones shot that guy. Made perfect sense.
