People criticize this era, but in time to come the top 4 of 00-10 will be legends.

    MANNY PACQUIAO

    BERNARD HOPKINS

    FLOYD MAYWEATHER JR

    and

    JUAN MANUEL MARQUEZ.

It's very easy to criticize this era at the moment, because there are many things to complain about. But as time passes, people will look at this decade, and they will see:

    - The weight-jumping miracle that is Pacquiao

    - The age-defying skills and brilliance of Hopkins

    - The sublime talent of Mayweather

    - The upward trajectory of Marquez into a mid-30s master

And they will see this as a decade of truly brilliant fighters after all. We are too harsh on the best fighters of our era. :bbb

(I haven't included Jones, Mosley, Barrera, Morales, De La Hoya, Trinidad etc because those guys' peaks can be argued to have been in the 90s, and even if their peaks weren't, a crucial part of their careers were. The above four all did their main work in the 00s. Guys like Calzaghe, Wright and Vasquez don't quite make it into this top 4 bracket IMO)

JMM needs to have a moment better than his moments in his last two fights...he may not get into the top 50 list after all

A good argument for Roy Jones can be made.

He didn't beat Pac twice. I had it 1 win apiece. But that's irrelevant on this thread. The point of it is we have some truly great fighters here and we should realize it.

I dont thik people are too harsh on these guys. Most people recognise these 4 as ATGs. Floyd's resume is the only thing people can discredit but no one discredits his ability

Sometimes we don't recognise greatness when it's right in front of us.
There's a built-in tradition in all sports that things were always better in the old days.
There are many things wrong with boxing but the 4 guys you mentioned would be elite fighters at any time in history.
All these guys have received their fair share of criticism (rightly and wrongly) but when they're retired and we get a little perspective on their careers, I doubt anyone will deny their greatness.

For three years work 00-03? Nah, for me Roy's peak was 94-97. Roy is a 90s fighter IMO, if we are placing fighters into decades, which is what I was doing here.

    Totally agree.:good

What's even better is that 3 of the 4 at least still have a few more fights left to do more. I suppose even B-Hop could.

I think its the inconsistency of the HW division that gives people the urge to openly thrash the current state of boxers. Unjustly so for the most part, but it is inevitable

IMO people moan about this era, this generation, harking back to the old days. When the dust settles and we look back at this era in the decades to come, these four names will mean that this decade will be thought better of than it is now.

morales has his moment in schooling pacquiao, jones over toney
barrera in the hamed fight, trinidad in the vargas fight, hopkins in pavlik and trinidad fights and PBF against corrales...

    what is JMM's greatest moment?

    Nice post :good

Fans generally tend to underrate their own era but with time they will give them more recognition. I bet in 20 years time we'll look back to the glory years of the new fab four (JMM, Pac, MAB, EM) and Floyd Mayweather, Hopkins etc. and say "look how great that era was.
