People don't generally believe Ward could beat a prime Calzaghe do they?

I really do like Ward. However, since winning the S6 (and even during) he's pulled a lot of moves that make me question his mentality. Seems to have this Mayweather-esque idea that since he's #1 that everybody has to 'earn' a shot at him. And his idea of 'earning it' is basically...well we don't know, since Chavez is the only person he's willing to fight.

-Insists on Oakland advantage for all his fights in the S6. Froch had to fight to get the championship in Atlantic city
-Just decides not to fight Dirrell in the S6.
-Calls out Bute, then does a 180 and refuses to fight him.
-Says GGG isn't PPV-worthy or proven enough (who is??).
-Doesn't answer Stevenson's challenge (a huge opportunity for Ward imo).
-Brushes off Anthony Dirrell because 'the networks wouldn't like it.'
-Brushes off Hopkins because they're buddies.
-No thoughts on Kovalev or Pascal.

Basically says he's willing to fight anyone, but then you name names and he's got excuses. The ONLY fighter I've heard him say he wants recently is Chavez. Seriously!

I think he's still got a lot to prove. I think he's good, but I'm afraid he's gonna go down the diva route and end up not proving it in the ring.

    Technical Note:
Ward vs. Bika was a TERRIBLE performance, and it was a Calzaghe opponent. The other is Kessler, and Ward didn't dominate that much more than Calzaghe did (minus the fouling, holding, cuts, layoff, age, no longer undefeated, etc.).

Hmm, I'm beginning to wonder at how interested you are in the truth. That is tongue in cheek. You're not interested in the truth at all.

    Lets go, one by one.

-Insists on Oakland advantage for all his fights in the S6. Froch had to fight to get the championship in Atlantic city

False. Showtime final was by contract somewhere in US. Froch wanted the fight in Vegas. Oakland was never seriously considered.

-Just decides not to fight Dirrell in the S6.

Really? Where did you get that?

-Calls out Bute, then does a 180 and refuses to fight him.

never refused to fight him. Allowed Froch first crack him, assuming (as everyone did) that Bute would win, setting up a big fight with Ward.

-Says GGG isn't PPV-worthy or proven enough (who is??).

He's actively lobbying for the GG fight. Where have you been. GGG on the contrary is lobbying for Mayweather.

-Doesn't answer Stevenson's challenge (a huge opportunity for Ward imo).
-Brushes off Anthony Dirrell because 'the networks wouldn't like it.'

Even if this were true: who cares, it's meaningless and uncompetitive fight.

-Brushes off Hopkins because they're buddies.

Completely false. Hopkins came up to Ward after the Pascal fight and told Ward "I'll never fight you" point blank on HBO.

-No thoughts on Kovalev or Pascal.

    So what.

Do you ever say anything even half-true?

why not? only a fanatic would think otherwise. Ward would have a good chance of beating Joe C its a 50/50 fight and I would have loved to have seen both go in their prime. Too bad their careers overlapped.

It's made clear in one of the fight camp episodes.

Dirrell and Ward were schedueled to fight, but neither camp made any preparations. That's to say the fighters were not training and the promotors didn't book any arena.

Appearantly, they had no plans of fighting each other.

Then Showtime brought in the lawyers, which ended with Dirrell pulling out with reference to Dr Shaw Hi and brain injury.

In fairness to Ward, it was Dirrell who pulled out when the heat was put on, but one must wonder what went on inside Wards head before that.

    AnotherFan,

    Thanks for the reply.

I enjoyed reading your posts, and I respect your opinion.

We'll have to agree to disagree.

It's great news about Andre though. Hopefully he'll keep himself busy.

Eubank was not an elite fighter when Joe fought him, and it's arguable that he was never an elite fighter.

An elite fighter = One of the very best fighters in the world.

Floyd Mayweather is an elite fighter.

Regarding the topic of Andre Dirrell and Ward not fighting each other. Quotes from a thread from February, 2010. I think the scheduled date for Ward and Dirrell to meet was in September later that year.

    Thread title:

    http://www.boxingforum24.com/showthread.php?t=206712&highlight=andre+dirrell+vs+andre+ward

Well he was certainly right about that. There was also one or two other posters on here, or maybe it was another forum, posters who claimed to have connections with either Ward or Dirrell or people in the know, who were saying exactly the same about it not happening too. I remember one of them was absolutely adamant it wasn't going to happen.

    Ha!

I've got OCD, so I hate not replying to threads.

The only exception is any thread regarding Manny and Floyd, or if I just want a long break from a certain subject.

The Manny and Floyd threads are crazy. Because after about a day, they get merged with the others and get put into the 'whine thread' as I'm sure you've noticed.

I debated someone in the summer, and I think I went out for a meal or somewhere one night. When I got back, I discovered that 5 different threads had been added to the 'whine' thread that night, all on top of the one I was commenting on. In the end, I couldn't even find my post.

So I try to stay away from them now.

Me and general zod have had some good debates. But sometimes it's a nightmare. We'll debate for a while, and then he'll just disappear. So I'll assume the debate has ended. But then three months later, he'll reply to every one of my points, all at once, completely out of the blue. Not only that, his opinions are always backed up with links.

Just before Christmas, he hit me with around 12 posts on one thread, and about 10 on another. Ha! He just dropped them on me all at once, at the same time. I didn't know what day it was. So I've still got 10 replies left on one of the threads.

David Fanning was a great poster. When I saw you quoting him, I was hoping he'd returned in this thread.
