He wants to be MW champ he should fight the other MW belt holders.

That really is all there is to it. I won't knock the guy for a voluntary vs Golovkin's best opponent, nor will I knock him for lining up a Canelo fight.

But at some point he should intend to face the man most people consider the best in the division Cotto is claiming to be champion of.

He was actually 166lbs on fight night versus martinez - i remember exactly.

    GGG was 170lbs last fight.

there is no size difference besides GGG being about 2in taller.

 No he wasn't. It was on the HBO fight night weights. I wrote it down exactly in a RbR on another forum.

    Ideally, yes.

But name me the last time one of the current lineal champions has faced their greatest possible challenger in a title defense?

9 of the 17 divisions have a lineal champion and only one in Wladimir, maybe two if you think Floyd won it from Mosley in 2010, have met your standards. Same applies to common title holders since had they met your standard as well, they would have produced a lineal champion.

Wladimir > Pulev last year and then Povetkin one year before that

Stevenson > not since winning it

Ward > not since winning it

    Cotto > hasn't defended it

    Mayweather 154 > hasn't defended it

Mayweather 147 > hasn't defended it OR Pacquiao a month ago

    D. Garcia > not since winning it

Rigondeaux > not since winning it

Roman G > not since winning it

The Ring Magazine recognizes YPH at cruiser and Nietes at 108. I and the seeming majority recognize neither of them. But if you did, that would be two more whom have not met your standards.

I expect equal criticism to all of those.

People just complaining and we all know why. Everybody loves Golovkin and he's getting squeezed out but nobody cares when it is one of their favorite fighters squeezing out the dangerous challenger they root against, so hey, what can you do?

You judge them by who they fight, not who they don't fight.

If Geale weights in at 160 and Cotto refused to fight him for the middleweight title, even his fellow ricans wouldn't support him.

Finally someone with some sense! People just saying stupid sh!t without any proof. I don't remember Martinez's weight, but I remember vividly writing down Cotto's weight because he was effing tiny.
