Rigo is a sublime technician. I believe Rigo is a better technician than Mayweather right now and an argument can be made Rigo is equal to Floyd when he was in his prime. Rigo is an old dog who won't learn new tricks. Rigo's mindset is to score; entrenched in him from all those years training/fighting in the Olympics. Remember when he was knocked down in the Donaire fight? He got up and bowed almost as if to say OK he scored a point unphased that single moment excited the crowd. Sadly, his passive style may hurt his legacy. How can Bob match him up against the top champions if he's being booed?
Doesn't hurt when you have idiots in the media making it worse. How can you boo someone for being so much better than the rest? If you are a true fan you'd sit back and appreciate it.
i would guess, 8/10 people left for the rigo-agbeko fight. i don't think hbo will ever feature rigo again.
Clueless fans calling rigo boring, he'll soon be slapping mikey Garcia about soon and the american media will "love" him for that
Great post. I enjoyed Rigo's performance against Donaire and would count myself as a purist but that fight last night was horrible to watch and the Lara-Trout was just as bad. Boxing is a sport at the amateur level but the Pro's are different and about entertaining people, if that means taking chances in order to do that then you have to take those risks if you want to be paid the big bucks. I doubt HBO/Showime will ever give Rigo or Lara main event fights in the future.
People leaving the arena means absolutely nothing. When I was in high school I went to Atlantic City and watched a LIVE boxing event that featured both Pernell Whitaker and Evander Holyfield. During the Holyfield bout everyone began booing and leaving. His boring methodical style hasn't harmed Commander Vander's rep or place in history one bit.
We aren't talking about skill and place in history , we are talking about getting p4p fight money. This also isn't a great boxer to compare Rigo to. For one Holy was a heavyweight and not some super skilled boxer. He was a head in your chest guy. Another was who Holyfield fought. Tyson, Lewis, Moore, and then there was his reign at cruiser too. Holyfield was a crowd pleaser in his prime. Once his skill diminish he got hard to watch but the guy earned an estimated 240 million. That is what Rigo wants. His skill is not question nor his place as one of the best technical boxer. A better comparison would be JMM. Until he found a dancer partner in Pac he was hardly a name outside of boxing enthusiast. A guy of JMM skill should be headlining PPV fights but he never did. Fighters avoided him because he wasn't a draw so you weren't going to get paid for a very likely chance of losing to him. Fighters want to get paid if they are going to risk that L, that is business at the professional level. Rigo is going to run into this.
Yeah, without viewers and tv ratings, promoters lose money and cant even show the fight. It is what it is, Rigo will be fighting at the local penny casino in front of 5 drunk fans soon.
Why the **** do people buy tickets then if they have no idea what that style of boxing looks like? Don't buy a ticket to a fight that features fighters known for fighting safe, then boo once you get there or leave and complain.
