I would personally say Lewis, both in terms of career achievements and career ending. And I don’t see it as being massively close either, as good as Joe was

You know it son. Had they retired two year earlier Joe would have dug up the corpse of TOCKER PUDWILL for a rematch!!!

This from a lady who posted that Lewis was nothing special and now having a pop at another of the British Greats.

    Jesus wept.

46 fights, 46 wins retiring undefeated.

    Stick to netball!!!

There’s nothing overly impressive about Joe’s record.

You don't rate any of his 46 opponents?

    Simply sensational.

You’ll find that about 75% of them were non world level fighters.

So he beat 12 world level opponents yet not impressed.

If I remember correctly he was the underdog fighting Eubank Jnr, the undefeated Lacy, the undefeated Kessler and Hopkins.

He even beat golfer Miguel Angel Jiminez at Cardiff Castle on points and fought through broken bones in his hands nearly every fight.

The Hall of Fame suggests he was a great.

Biggest myth in boxing is when people say Lewis was saved by the cuts in the Vitali fight. Watch the final round which Lewis dominated and hurt Vitali with a couple of huge uppercuts. The tide was swinging in Lewis favour. He won the fight fair and square. Let’s be honest, that fight could have easily been stopped at the end of round 3 due to the cut.

I’m not overly impressed at all.

He spent far too long with Frank Warren and the WBO.

He had no ambition for the majority of his career.

Chris Eubank took the fight on just 11 days notice. And he’d not fought at SMW in 2 years, or had a win there in 3 years.

Lacy had beaten nobody really noteworthy beforehand.

    Neither had Kessler.

I give him credit for Hopkins, but Hopkins was 43.

    Jones was shot.

He never beat a prime ATG.

Most of his world level opponents were B level opponents.

Many of them were coming off of losses.

What’s great about fighting 11 world level fighters in a 15 year career?

That doesn’t even average out a 1 world level fighter a year.

    Lennox chased down the best.

Whereas Joe spent a whole decade with a low level belt, where he fought mostly non world level opponents.

So you can’t even compare the two fighters.

Lewis has the better resume and was the better fighter imo, but Calzaghe had some big wins. Notably Lacy who was the supposed next big thing before Joe absolutely schooled him. He beat Kessler and the Hopkins win was still decent as he went on to win world titles and unify the light HW division. It was a very close fight though.
The only blot for me with Calzaghe was the fact he never rematched Robin Reid ( another world level fighter) who I thought won that fight.

That is the problem on here - not many look at context pre fight.

    Correct.

But Joe is massively overrated by many.

He was having sanctioned world title fights, against mostly guys who literally weren’t world level fighters.

    It was a joke.

And he once fought three of them in a row, whilst in his 30’s.

I have pointed out where Calzaghe was underdog pre fight - eg Lacy.

Ironic that most people fancied him to do a number on the fighting Pride of Wales pre fight.

Lacy would never get over that beating but fook me the aftertimers claiming he was a pudding post fight are talking nonsense.
