People question Luis Ortiz's age, but Nathan Gorman has to be in his 40s

I don't even buy the whole "Ortiz is nearly 50" narrative.

The first we know about him in his boxing career is 2002 at The Cuban nationals.

If we go by his "official" age, that would make him about 22/23...which makes sense if it was his first time appearing at the national Cuban level.

Unless people think he was about 30 when he just appeared out of nowhere at the Cuban national level.

 

He isn't in his 40s. He was born in the 1940s.

 

Who knows but there is a precedent for Cuban boxers and their said ages.Can only think it's done to make the most out of their amateur careers in Cuba and pro career in America?

 

It's all in fun, but also part of it is people don't want to give Wilder full credit for beating Ortiz and it makes them feel better to pretend Ortiz is actually 50 and it's an excuse to be dismissive of Wilder's accomplishments.

I know a Cuban man,a boxing guy who trained Rigo and Ortiz and his kid fought over there too.

He says Ortiz is 40.

No but he did spar against Sam Langford. Ortiz was even old back then.

 

I know quite a few bouncers who are similar to Gorman. ****ers all look to be in their 30s but are barely in their 20s.
This one mother****er, I thought he was at least 40. Dude even had a kid. Turns out dude was barely 20 or some ****. Everyone was in shock.

 

Actually we're both wrong. Ortiz was John L Sullivans sparring partner. Rumor has it Ortiz referred to Sullivan as "The Kid"

 

I knew a kid with a full beard in 8th grade.
