The more I read posts that involve discrediting Hatton's chances due to him not being a great fighter at Welter the more I'm thinking it's totally irrelevant. I'm not talking about other factors why he will lose here, just the weight issue.

This fight could just as easily be at Junior-Welter. Hatton will be around 152-153 pounds come fight night (same as he does for all his Light-Wleter fights) and Mayweather I would imagine will be very similar or slightly lighter so does it really matter that they are officially fighting at Welter or not?

I agree mate, whatever the result, I wont be making excuses for the weight its at. (With the proper training ricky will be and seems to be) in good shape and well prepared, anything can happen, and I give ricky a good chance anyway!

The fact that he's going to weigh in at 142 and weigh 150+ on fight night gives him a better chance, however small that chance is, to win. So I think it's a very good idea. If he came in at 147, he would be in even bigger trouble because his footspeed, handspeed, and stamina would see a drop.

Agreed, ricky's old man even said they wouldnt be trying too hard to make 147 anyway (to bulk up I mean), for the reasons you highlighted:good

:good Julio Cesar Chavez did this too against Pernell Whitaker when fighting for the WBC Welterweight Title. He came in at 142 so he still had speed and stamina. He got outclassed, but he did better than he would had he weighed in at the WW limit.

I'm interested to see how Hatton looks, size-wise, in comparison to Mayweather.

Me too, Hatton looks good at the moment, like you say, I hope he doesnt put too much emphasis on making 147 for the weigh-in, it could be detremental to his game! As for what people make of the size difference etc and reach, personally, if you want it, you will find a way to get it, no excuses once the bell goes, not from me anyway, and you could probably call me a Hatton Hugger!

I agree, this is an over the weight 140lb fight really.

well hes ag 148 now and given the look of him i wouldnt bother going down to 142 only to go back up to 148/149 24 hours later (his normal fight weight)

He may as well stay at 147 and just put 2 pounds back rather than 10???

Since we are reading too much into it, The Ring Magazine ( "on the dawning of a bright, new era" says Editor-in-Chief N. Collins about ODLH's ownership) finds Floyd's presence in ABC's show Dancing With The Stars relevant to the outcome of this one - Dancing with Disaster Pretty Boy won't be doing the Tango with Hatton - so if that is to be so, how come Hatton fighting for the second time in a weight class and the first having been several miles short of a classic performance, is not? Like I say so many times, there is a huge abyss between what we are and what we wish to become - Ricky Hatton is the best light-welter and wishes to be the best welterweight in the whole wide world.

Many have done it before, theres no reason to suggest its beyond ricky to achieve the victory either!

I would say that it's literally beyond Ricky cause if I said otherwise, it would be the same as to say that #1 P4P Floyd Mayweather plays no part in the outcome of this one and that would be ridiculous. Let's be clear about this if you please - Hatton winning is in the sphere of the possible, not of the probable though, cause it's not just up to what Ricky can do... There are always two partners in any dance style and then, there's always the eminence of rupture at weak spots too, and thereby, I say that it is likely that Floyd conducts the dance other than the other way around and that Hatton is more expected to break than the opposite of that. I keep to myself about whom I would like to win if I may.
