We gotta call a spade a spade. I think it’s evident Canelo knows Benavidez is too much of a risk at this point in his career while not offering anything substantial and well, there’s also the chance that he’s not fighting him simply because people keep pushing him to do it. Historically speaking most boxers careers have never panned out well whenever they give in to what the fans want.

By the same token however, Benavidez evidently views Morrell as too much of a risk. Morrell called him out and Team Benavidez gave nothing but crickets. Benavidez says he’ll fight whoever including Morrell, but he doesn’t appear to be eager to take steps to making the fight happen. Why? Well it’s pretty simple. Morrell is physically tougher, mentally tougher, faster along with being more skilled both offensively and defensively which I think is due to his extensive Cuban amateur background.

Look at how Andrade was piecing him apart for several rounds until he managed to drop him. As Morrell said Andrade poked holes in his defense and if he was a natural 168 fighter I think he would’ve beaten Benavidez. Morrell, whom is more skilled and stronger than Andrade, would beat Benavidez.

I think the fans are hypocritical about this whole ducking situation.

And he proved all that by beating 10 cans? Wow!

Benavidez is not fighting him because a fighter of his status should not be wasting time fighting a guy with 10 fights with zero to gain.

An undisputed champion clearly needs to be held to a much higher standard than a contender. Im not even sure i would say a contender is ducking anyone, because if Benavidez decides to fight cab drivers for the next 10 years sure it will be unfortunate, but the next best guy should get his title shot.
However if the undisputed champ is ducking his nr 1 contender, it stinks up the whole division and in Canelos case, since he is a cash cow, the whole sport

    There's a number of differences, I'll list a couple:

Benavidez is the stripped former champion of one of the belts Canelo is holding.
Benavidez has been a top 10 SMW for 7 years and titlist almost that long.
Benavidez should've had a unification shot before Plant, Ryder, Saunders, Charlo. He should've been the next person after Callum TBH.

David Morrell (who I think is the real deal), has not even beaten a top 15 opponent (despite holding a title).
Morrell is the WBA regular champion, Benavidez is WBC interim, this is not even a called for fight, it's not to unify anything.
    Unification always trumps anything else.
Morrell isn't in the same position concerning hierarchy where he can make claims like this, the unification process began with Canelo/Plant/Smith/Benavidez.............a variation of these men have already fought and there's only two standing, they have to fight.

I think 8-10 more fights Morrell beats Benavidez, he passes my eye test. But not yet. There's no similarities or hypocrisy concerning Benavidez warranting a title shot and Morrell not.

This is just deflection. Benavidez is long overdue for a shot at Canelo and is being passed over for guys who have done nothing to warrant the opportunity. He's earned his position, built his reputation and fan base, and has no reason to sacrifice those things in order to give Morrell a "chance" at something he himself is in no position to offer. Canelo is the one with all the belts.

Morrell is calling out Benavidez to springboard himself into the fray, but he is being lazy about it. He should be fighting the other contenders and taking the same route that Benavidez took, so that he is bringing something to the table. Maybe he should fight a Plant or an Andrade. Maybe an Mbili. Someone, anyone, before it even makes sense to call out Benavidez.

Stop excusing Canelo, Benavidez is clearly the best contender at 168 and is a former champion himself. Morrell has 10 fights and from what we’ve seen is clearly a guy who brings much more risk than reward. Benavidez has beaten Plant and Andrade, at this point he is far more qualified than Canelo’s previous opponents at 168, including the likes of Smith, Saunders, Plant, GGG, Jermell, and Ryder.

The only reason a handful of fans don’t want to see this fight seems to be they fear Canelo actually losing to him after talking so much smack about Benavidez.

Why the hell would Benavidez take that fight when Canelo is the biggest payday he could ever receive in his entire boxing career ?
Benavidez has more then proven himself worthy of fighting Canelo and has fought difficult boxers to get to that point.
Who has Morrell faced to demand a fight with Benavidez ? What a foolish thing to even bring up - a boxer with TEN whole fights is demanding to fight a boxer who has fought top opponents for years and now wants his shot at the top person - CANELO.

Yes. There's too much accusations going around about contenders "ducking". They, unlike champions, don't have a championship to defend.

Sure, if you have two equally standout contenders and one of them refuse to face off in an elimination you can perhaps call that a duck, but otherwise it's a terms that should be reserved for champions/belt holders.

And Benavidez has already beaten Dirrell, Lemieux, Plant and Andrade which is definitely enough to earn him the uncontested top contender spot. He doesn't need to do anything further to prove that status.

Canelo is just proving what a farce & a fraud he is Why hasn't Canelo /Benevidiz been ordered ? Surely he's been the #1 contender long enough? Its obvious Canelo is the cash cow Theyre scared he'll get his butt whupped like he did against Bivol & then refused to defend the 168 titles against him in a rematch. Canelo is proving to be a carbon copy of Floyd he'll avoid the dangerous ones. Im waiting for him to claim he's retiring like Floyd did to avoid Margarito & Williams

He fought a Canelo left over and a 154 lb fighter.

    Wow.

Canelo has until next month to announce whether he will fight Benavidez or be stripped.

I'm guessing he may fight Benavidez in September or May 2025.

Asa fan I would like for him to fight him in September to finish his three fight deal with PBC.

What may happen is that he will fight Berlanga September 2024, and renegotiate with PBC for one more fight to fight the winner of Munguia-Benavidez in May 2025.

Canelo has a few options. 168 in general is open right now.

Beating two shot fighters, a Canelo leftover and a 154 lb fighter is hardly impressive..

With that said, Benavidez is the #1 contender for the WBC at 168, and March is the deadline when Canelo has to announce whether he will defend his title against the #1 contender Benavidez or vacate/stripped.

    So now we wait.
