A southpaw won't need a great jab to beat him.

What's a lie is that you have to have great defense, and out'slick Floyd to beat him. Did CAstillo have a great defense? What about Oscar, who parried or blocked most of Floyd's punches? All you need a solid , tight defense. Floyd doesn't throw combinations. His offense is fairly predictable. A good, stiff jab helps. Good ring generalship, throw the right combinations, and be a bit clever yourself. A southpaw has a lot less to worry about.

Look at Wlad. He practically beat u with his jab. A good jab is very important to have to beat Floyd. Oscar had him for the 1st 6 rounds, until he avoided using it for the rest of the fight

    Yes, good post.

Feints are key too. Anything to throw him off his rhythm and stop him dominating the action with small moves. Anything that forces him to move further faster than he would ideally want to.

I think Floyd would win any fight where he could determine the rhythym and pace. He can actually afford to give up distance IMO, which is very very rare.

So, jab, feint, disrupt, don't forget to follow up - can't make yourself content with scaring him.

You need a jab to beat Floyd. I agree with everything else though. The main thing you need is the ring IQ. If your ring IQ isn't on Floyd's level your not going to beat him.

If vernon didnt have a good jab im not so sure he would have been able to control mosley most people without one will end up in a war with mosley without it. shane was looking for the jab so much he never saw the right and thats were the trouble began

One thing about that jab is, you don't need to get lazy with it and use it at the right times. Mayweather wants you to use it so he can do the pull counter over it. He would tell Shane has jab was **** in the fight so he would throw it just so he can throw the right hand over it

You need a jab to throw off his timing. A good jab can neutralize speed.

Vernon Forrest (RIP) would have been a nightmare match-up for Mayweather IMO. Always felt that way. And I'll take Forrest in that fantasy match-up 9 out of 10 times. If you want to get historical.... Thomas Hearns would have caused him some serious problems as well.

Styles make fights... and I've always felt a lanky fighter with a solid jab is who will beat Floyd. I don't think anybody who is shorter than Floyd, or has a reach disadvantage has much of a realistic shot.

That is just flat out not true.

Generally speaking feinting was seen as a way to move your man out of position and bridge that speed gap.

More specifically, Marquez, who is certainly not faster than Mayweather, had his limited success off the back of feints.
