Lets see where Cotto is at 39. Martinez was shot, a blind man could see that. Watch the Williams fight then watch the Cotto fight again, totally different fighter. The fact is that a shot Martinez took his beating like a man, while a prime Cotto quit on his knees like an old *****. :good
Semantics. I clarified and stand by my point. Instead of debating the point, you entered a discussion of semantics. Fine. Cotto is targeting someone who is not a middleweight for his first "middleweight title defense" and that's pathetic any way you slice it. But I assume you and others would be fine if Cotto defended the middleweight crown at a touch over 154 against the likes of Bradley, Canelo, Khan, etc. It's the type of thing that contributes to boxing being viewed as a joke. And I'm not just picking on Cotto. Floyd and Pac are guilty of the same BS. It's bad for the sport.
Well, I don't blame him for wanting to make as much money as he can. But it's still pathetic, especially for fans who want to see the middleweight champion defend his title against ranked opponents who are actually MIDDLEWEIGHTS. :smoke
Cotto will never again beat a healthy, top-10 147, 154, or 160lb fighter. Sergio will never again beat anyone.
Bouncing??? He was gimping around the ring. Ali was BOUNCING around against Holmes, was Ali still in his prime?? Martinez took shots from a 178lb Palvik, and a almost 190lb JCCJ but a man who couldn't KO Paulie M. is really going to hurt a prime Martinez. He was shot. Deal with it.
How bout I say it the vice versa equivalent of you said it? Cotto is targeting a big man, big threat, and big name. You do realize that is in fact what is happening, don't you? And yet you are not satisfied, the truth is, this is in fact the types of fights boxing fans enjoy the most, big competition, and big names. What do you think will happen between three G and Cotto if they fight, honestly?
Cotto Trolls running wild here because their boy beat an old champion. Where were these guys when Cotto lost to journeyman Clottey but was given the decision? Or when Cotto was nearly KO'ED by a featherfisted Mayweather in the 12th round? Or How about when he quit on his knees? Cotto never beat beat a great fighter in his prime. Deal with it.
My problem isn't with the match-up, it's that Cotto is parading around as the middleweight champion and it's a farce. And a "middleweight title bout" between two guys who aren't middleweights is an even bigger farce. Anyone who denies this is agenda driven, plain and simple. Which you clearly are, as you continue to run circles around my main point, indicating that deep down, you concede the points I've made. :smoke
I've got a point to make too, if you just answer this question, what kind of match up do you think Cotto-three G will be, a whitewash for three G or competitive etc.? And I just caught that you said Cotto three G is a farce in the first place since Cotto is not middle. So the only thing you care about is Cotto doing what you believe would happen in giving up that belt in a crushing defeat to three G, am I right?
Of course team Martinez are going to say Sergio was fine. They are not going to implicate themselves in a con job. Sergio's knee was so far gone , he fell down the one time threw a power shot. He couldn't punch. He had no leverage or thrust from his legs to be of any threat to Cotto.
