    Okay. I've read every post.

I agree that there is a validity problem if someone steps up in weight and wins a title then refuses to defend that title against others of that weight division who have worked for their rankings.

I think the first priority should be those defenses- or at least one- exactly.

HOWEVER, what I think is certainly useless when it comes to policy. The sanctioning bodies involved have to be active to insure this occurs.

When it does not, IMO, they should have the temporary champ vacate the title. This doesn't have to be a negative thing that discredits that fighter.

I am a fan of Cotto, but if he dodges established middleweights, then it does, IMO, disrespect the division and those fighters.

Eh, don't let people pull you into that "disrespect of the belt" guilt trip. Across all of sports, no element or component of it is ever higher than the than the respect, and thrill of competition. Look at all sports and the pro versions of each sport always view the highest, and the playoffs, even higher than that, all because that's where the comp is.

If you believe that three G beats Cotto easily and that's the fight you want, that is far more disrespectful to the spirit of sportsmanship than anything else could be. Those who make the respect for the belt argument are either misinformed, Golov lovers, or Cotto haters. Belts are made to honor the people who wear them, people aren't made to honor belts.

Cotto doesn't need credit from people who don't know about boxing.
Martinez said he was game to fight, if he wasn't ready or healthy he shouldn't have signed the contract. That's life. Stop kissing Martinez's culo and feeling sorry for him...he talked a lot of s h i t at the presser to Cotto saying how he would knockout Cotto and all this fake hype. Cotto dominaited the fight and a lot of you ESB 247 fools betted on Martinez to win.

Now that Cotto won the fight in a ****ly fashion...Cotto gets no credit.

It's people like you who ruin the boxing community and no one has respect for indecisive fans like you. You favored fighter loses and you come out with 20 excuses on why he loss. You are weak.

No, see this is where and why the Cotto fans arent getting much love at the moment.

You cant say "Cotto is great, he beat a healthy Martinez, he is the legit MW champ!" in once breath.... then suggest that Cotto taking fights against the top fighters in the actual division is disrespectful to the sport in the next.

Do you seriously not see the problem here? Cotto is claiming to be the best MW. If he is not wanting to back that up, and fights against top guys at 160 are mismatches in their favor... he should drop the belt and go win at 154 or 147 or wherever he is comfortable.

Divisions and weight classes exist for a reason, and noone is forcing Cotto to hang on to WBC belt and call himself the MW champ. If he wants to do so, he can reasonably expect reasonable fans to want him to actually prove his dominance of that division. Not fight Tim Bradley. Its pretty simple.

    Is anybody actually suggesting that?

Cotto hasn't fought a bunch of WW's or bums whilst MW Champ so maybe reserve criticism for when he actually does that. Martinez is the one who ducked GGG to fight former 140 fighter who had done nothing at 160.

    Just Rik was suggesting that.

I see your point, and yeah GGG was the guy Martinez really should have been fighting even back when he was healthy. I havent said Martinez knees were gone in the Cotto fight because I am a big Martinez fan, I have said it because it is patently obvious. Heck the first knockdown Martinez ducked the hook, then Cotto pulled on the back of his head. It pulled him off balance, his knee didnt hold up and he fell to the canvas and hurt his knee even worse. This is obvious to anyone, and anyone can go watch it for themselves.

As far as fighting Bradley, it was Cotto adviser Gaby Penagaricano himself who was trying to say Bradley was a bigger fight than GGG.

Its kind of ironic, I said at the time the fight was signed between Cotto and Martinez it was a decent fight as long as if Cotto wins because Martinez is too unhealthy he doesnt turn the MW division and history into a complete farce by fighting people like Bradley.

Thats what Team Cotto seems to be angling for though. :conf

Aging champs get knocked off all the time, in of itself its not that big a deal. The question is what the winner does going forward. I am fine with the Canelo fight if it goes off, but Cotto seems hesitant and without Canelo , Team Cotto handlers seems to be looking even further down in the weight classes.

I find this disappointing to say the least.

LOL Teddy isnt the best at picking winners but he does know boxing.....I recall having a conversation with my old trainer "Snake" Ingrasami former Bantam weight champ and he pretty much summed everything up with "man, Cotto gonna whip his ass just because Martinez don't know how to box a lick and he ant gonna move out of the way of that left hook Cotto got" lolololol

I thought he was going to hit me for even asking him his opinion LMAO

Hmm...Let me ask you a couple of question good sir.

Is it true you thought Mosley was still in his prime when Mundine beat him?

Are you the one claiming that Danny Green beat Roy Jones at his best?

    Please boxing scholar, reply promply.

It's a shame Jermain Taylor got to Sam Soliman before Cotto had the chance to because that would've meant Cotto would've won his last three world title belts against peg-legged cripples.
