He dropped him in the 1st and Bhop felt the power and went into survival mode with the odd attempt to attack. He didn't outbox Hopkins he just beat a guy up who was in survival mode. Great win though.

Hopkins was too cautious, I wouldn't call it survival mode though. He barely threw any punches but even if he did, I think Kovalev would've beat him. Every time Hopkins threw he was open for a counter. And after feeling Kovalev's power, the didn't throw.

    Outboxed and overpowered.

If Hopkins had been some no name guy from some no name country people here would have classed him as being 'another bum'. Wich of course is bull, but I'm pretty sure of that.

    This is beyond stupid.

He not only out boxed Nard, but his style seemed all wrong for Nard in every aspect of the fight. Normally Hop can bully his opponent; Kovalev didn't allow that to happen. Normally he can break down his fighters style by mid fight and embarrass them; Didnt even come close to happening. That's why he lost. That and the fact that KOVALEV OUTBOXED HIM FOR 12 STRAIGHT ROUNDS. If he was gunshy after getting dropped it doesnt matter. Krusher booty blasted nard dog into another dimension.

those that have actually.boxed know why and how it happened.

i actually picked Hopkins to make a dirty inside fight and win because Kovalev cant fight on the inside

the first round is what set everything in motion.

watch the knockdown carefully, Hopkins tries to lunge in with a counter, only for Kovalev to counter that.

as a former boxer, i know exactly what would have gone through Hopkins mind at the time and that was...
'****, this guy is a better counter puncher than me, and he hits very hard" Hopkins knew then, not to make that same mistake again. He also realised.....he has no chance of winning except a one punch ko, which he tried to look for the whole fight.

Hopkins underestimated Kovalev, i admit j did too. Hopkins thought Kovalev was just a slugger, pressure fighter but that knockdown showed Kovalev has a lot more to his game.

Hopkins had no chace of winning that fight and he knew it from that KD.

that's why he was so respectful at the press conference aferwards because he realised Kovalev is a whole lot more than just a slugger.

question is, who can beat Kovalev now?

Kovalev definitely proved he was more than just a puncher.

You're a ****in idiot. No doubt about it. Kovalev landing that big punch had very little affect on Hopkins game plan. Hopkins anticipated Kovalev tiring in the late rounds. Hopkins didn't deviate from his gameplan and even tried to knock Kovalev out in the late rounds. Did Kovalev's power assist him to outbox Hopkins, sure. Just like Mayweather's reach helped him to outbox caveman Maidana, along with a ref.

    Good post.

Kovalev did very well not to get dragged into an inside fight were his reach and flexibility would be negated. NTM, his chin is NOT bad, but it's certainly not IRON, and a few Hopkins UCs follwed by a R hand coulda seen Kovalev tasting the canvas, dazed, and prematurely stopped.

Smart fight for Kovalev respecting BHop's inside game and not looking for a kill.

    As for who beats him......

I'd say the 3 guys with a chance would be Lefty Sanchez, Umberto Savigne, and Artur Beterbiev:think

If you know anything about boxing (which you don't) you'd know Kovalev outboxed him.

You call it survival mode, i call it having no answers for a younger stronger fighter. Hopkins was overwhelmed and lost the fight. Kovalev deserves his credit.
