Pac fought like eight or nine current or future Hall of Famers - Oscar, Mosley, Cotto, Floyd, Bradley, Barrera, Morales, Marquez and Hatton. Inoue fought Nonito Donaire.
True. Pac did a really good number on Cotto and Hatton. Had losses to Morales, Floyd and Marquez (Bradley was a robbery) It's not Inoue's fault he doesn't have these ATG's in his path. Donaire caught him good, and he still lost or was possibly saved from a KO by the ref. And Inoue seems to fight up to his opponnents. When he feels threatened he becomes devastating. Taking into account the level he's demonstrated, and until someone defeats him, he should receive the maximum credit possible, and i feel the comparaisons to Manny are totally legitime.
Which part? Here's the receipts: https://www.oddsshark.com/boxing/manny-pacquiao-betting-odds Pacman was only underdog against Oscar and Floyd. After Hatton, where Manny was only moderately favored, he went from being slightly/moderately favored to significantly favored every time out. Lots of people got caught up in the media frenzy but Roach was a phenomenal matchmaker. Cotto after Margs brutal stoppage and Clottey (many people felt Clotty beat Cotto) Margs after handwrap discovery, trainer lifetime ban, and Shane brutalized him...then Margs looked horrible in his tuneup bout Hatton after Floyd and Ricky looked damaged each time out afterward Shane once he was shot to sh*t...hell there was a YT vid of Shane offering to go to 140 for Manny but Roach rejected the fight...a few years later it wasnt a problem anymore... Manny is an ATG and he's ranked above Floyd for me, but - just like Floyd - his record/matchmaking was carefully managed. Nothing I said about Inoue was satire.
I don't think Cotto, Mosley, Bradley, or Hatton belong in the HOF. You could make a better case for Morales but he was past it by the time he lost to Pacquiao. People have really low standards for the hof it seems. If Cotto goes in does that make Margarito and Santos HOF fighters?
To be fair though Inoue is about to unify 2 divisions in 12 months where he'll be undisputed. Pac was never undisputed in 1 division. And doing 2 divisions in 12 months...and those 2 divisions are his 3rd and 4th weight class...that's pretty impressive too. Inoue might not have the RESUME that Manny has but Inoue is literally fighting unified champs in Fulton/Tapales...cant ask for more than that from a guy especially when theyre moving up weight in their 4th weight division
Great fighter but people get carried away far too quickly. He needs to accomplish an absolute truck load more to be compared remotely near Manny Pac.
Inoue is 30 and Pacquiao was an ATG by the time he was 25. Had already KO'ed the man at 112, 122 and 126 and had a win against Barrera and a draw against Marquez.
Inoue might not be as great as Pac mostly cause he doesn't have the same level of opponents that were available for Pac to reach the level he reached. So yes not as great as Pac but he's the best fighter of his generation.
I think comparisons in and of themselves are fair. However, I think that saying he’s surpassing or going to surpass Manny is insane - he’s got a ways to go before he’s even knocking on the door when it comes to that. Inoue is great, but Manny is a top class ATG, and his accomplishments are ridiculous.
Did he though? He pretty much blanked out Juan Lazcano and TKOd Paule M just before Pac. And Cotto still had a fine career himself post Manny, winning a JrMW title and the Lineal MW World Championship.
So you're just going to assume that he would've beaten JMM, MAB, and EM based on victories over Donaire and Fulton, huh?
