People still not giving Fury credit should be ashamed of themselves

I cannot believe some of the reaction to Fury's incredible win last night. People who are still not giving him credit either really dislike him, are embarrassed because they called the fight so wrong beforehand, or are both of the above.

I'll admit it wasn't the smoothest boxing match we've ever seen but that doesn't mean that Fury didn't display a very high level of skill in the ring last night, not to mention huge boxing intelligence. Boxing is the art of hitting and not getting hit. Against one of the hardest men to hit that the heavyweight division has ever seen; Fury landed good shots in every round. Not only that, one of the most dominant heavyweight champions we've ever seen, couldn't land a glove on him. To put it simply; Klitschko's face was busted up bad after the fight and Fury looked liked he'd just been for a walk in he park. Unbelievable.

People are saying Wlad couldn't pull the trigger because he got old overnight but that's miserably unfair on Fury and his teams efforts last night. Wlad came into this fight on the back of some of his most impressive wins in years. He said he felt young, he'd just signed a bumper multiple fight deal and in my opinion, he'd shown little if any signs of aging recently. The reason Wlad couldn't pull the trigger was because he had a 6 foot 9 freak of nature in front of him moving in an unorthodox manner that is unheard of for a man that size. We all know Wlad won't throw unless he believes he can land because he doesn't want to leave himself exposed. Fury's head and foot movement were that good last night that Wlad was frightened of his life to throw punches and leave himself open. That's the only reason Wlad couldn't get shots off and if you don't give Fury huge credit for the very skillful defensive movement he showed last night, you're shamelessly biased.

I say the same for those who aren't giving him credit for what he landed last night. This is Wladimir Klitschko he was fighting, a man who barely had a glove landed on him in 10 odd years. His defense if anything was improving in recent years and it was looking more and more impenetrable but Fury landed something significant in every round last night which included several different types of shots. What did people expect of Fury or any other heavyweight for that matter? It's impossible to land a high volume of clean punches on Wladimir Klitschko, impossible! Fury done extremely well to land what he landed on Wlad last night, no other heavyweight on the planet would have landed as many shots.

As I say it wasn't the smoothest fight last night but it was a hugely intriguing tactical battle between two top class heavyweights. Just because neither of these men are slick, black, American heavyweights, doesn't mean they're not two very well rounded fighters. Fury is a lot slicker than he is given credit for too, he's just so big that his slick movement looks unorthodox. But that's all the more impressive in my opinion. Wlad and Fury might not be everyone's cup of tea but they are without question the two best heavyweights on the planet and they deserve respect if nothing else. It was a very competitive, tantalizing heavyweight championship fight that ended with a massive upset. This is what we've waited years for but because it wasn't a slick, black, American heavyweight who dethroned Wlad, people are disappointed. NEWSFLASH: Tyson Fury is the most charismatic champion we've had since Ali and although he wasn't spectacularly exciting last night against the near impenetrable defense of Wlad, he is a very exciting fighter who will give us many years of entertainment.

There's no shame in getting the pick wrong last night. I'm a Tyson Fury fan, I rate him very highly and I had huge doubts about last night because Wlad was such a dominant champion and was looking more and more unbeatable in my eyes. But Fury came out and not only won the fight, he won it comfortably, looking like he had a few more gears left in him. How anyone cannot be hugely impressed by what this 27 year old young man done last night is beyond me. He may not be the slick, black, American savior you've all been waiting for, but he's more charismatic than anything we've seen in decades and is very exciting in the ring in his own right, once he's up against a less conservative opponent than Wlad. He's huge, he's fast, he's slick, he's got the whole array of shots and he wants to excite the fans. What more do you people want?

This is it, this is what we've been waiting for so give Fury the credit he deserves and sit back and enjoy the ride. The chap turned up for a press conference for a world heavyweight championship fight dressed as Batman, if that's not good for the entertainment aspect of boxing I don't know what is. Incredible performance last night by Fury and at 27, he's got frightening potential. He will win the rematch by a wider margin I feel and then make no mistake about it, he'll light up this division like nothing we've seen in years. It's about time people started rating this freak of nature. Unorthodox he might be because of his freakish size, but that makes him all the more impressive, not to mention fascinating.

Excellent post by the thread starter. People said this fight was boring but it was a tactical display and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Fury fought brilliantly using his length movement feints and a jab to nullify wlad and make him look lost. I picked fury to win this fight but I never could've imagined that he would make it look that easy. Tyson backed up his tough talk and a new era has begun.

Didn't read the whole post, but think I got the point. I'd mostly agree. I do think that Wlad did decline and that that played a role. There was speculation that Wlad couldn't pull the trigger anymore based on the Jennings fight, and we see the same issue against Fury. That's more likely to be decline than coincidence.

That said, I'm not certain any version of Wlad would have beat Fury. Fury had advantages that neutralized Wlad's strengths. I think age played a role, but its impossible to say how much.

Credit to Fury for winning. Against such an ATG opponent, one who was simultaneously so dangerous in his power and so technically cautious and perfect, Fury had to fight a negative fight. It didn't look great, but looks belie reality sometimes, and that is the case here. It was a masterful performance by Fury and he deserves all the credit for winning.

Ive been backing Fury as a post K2 titlist since his 12th or 13th fight.

I just didnt believe Wlad would be fighting on past his 39th birthday.

I figured Wlad would outjab Fury if they fought and win a decision or get a late stoppage.

Props to Fury for getting a mat he could move better on, then using that movement to befuddle a still competent and still viable ATG.:thumbsup

I made that mistake with him early on in his career, and he'd been proving me wrong every step of the way.

I said that i thought Fury would make it interesting if he didn't walk onto something in the first few rounds.

I hold my hands up and admit, that i thought Fury had the tools but didn't stick my neck out and call it.

Fair play to everybody who did.
