There are many writers who noticed that in an attempt to let Clottey open up, Manny let himself get hit than usual, else he will only be hitting gloves and arms, thus your term EASILY.

In all those catchweights, who is the bigger guy?

You can not criticize a fighter who seeks out bigger opponents.

Margarito at 150, when Margarito fought at 147 prior to that fight.

Cotto at 145 when obviously Cotto is the bigger fighter.

The thing that you can criticize is if Pac asked Juan Manuel Lopez to fight at 140, similar to what Gayweather asked JMM to do.

ONCE AGAIN, WHO IS THE BIGGER GUY IN THE FIGHT?

Leonard was highly criticized for winning two titles in one night, most boxing writeres scoffed at that and considered it bogus.

......and as for the Chavez-Whitaker fight, Chavez was'nt making a true Welterweight who had been a mainstay there for years come down to fight him at a catchweight.

Whitaker himself had just stepped into that divsion.
In fact Whitaker only fought once or twice at 140 lbs and abandoned the division because Chavez was there.

Whitaker actually ducked Chavez at 140 lbs, he did'nt stay there but one or two fights.....

Lou Duva's own words were that they preffered Chavez come up to fight Whitaker at 147 lbs. They already knew Whitaker was better built for 147 lbs than Chavez was.

So when the Chavez-Whitaker fight was negotiated for 145 lbs, Whitaker gladly accepted as he knew he could make 140 lbs and do so comfortably.

Its the same situation that JMM finds himself in today.
We all know Pacquiao can make 140 lbs comfy. His own physical trainer say's it......

......and yet if a 3rd fight happens between them, Pacquiao does'nt want to budge from the fight being held at 147 lbs even though everyone and their Momma knows he can come down to 140 lbs.

I see nothing wrong in asking a fighter to come down to a weight we all know he can make.

.....but to ask a fighter like say Cotto to come down 2 lbs, knowing that Cotto is a fighter that struggles with his weight and comes into his welterweight fights weighing in the mid 150's.......now thats asking a welteweight to be at a disadvantage.

In any regard, Leonard did set the standard of catchweights in boxing, which for the most part imo has done harm to the sport.

I know the tale of the tape was simliar but Cotto is a naturally bigger guy. His shoulders and back area are just bigger. Cotto walks around at 160-170 if i'm not mistaken. Manny walks around at 145-150.

Be truthful *******........Margarito had'nt been at 147 lbs for almost 2 years since the Mosley fight, and even then he was having a hell of a time making weight.

.......In my book fighting for a vacant junior middleweight title against an opponent of your choice is bogus........and the victory is even less meaninful when its at a catchweight against a fighter who everyone knew would struggle to make 150 lbs.
