    1 Louis

If you had asked me that years ago It would have been different. **** it would have been different up until a few years ago as I slowly learn more and more about boxing.

Louis is certainly an acceptable alternative to choosing Ali, yeah. Marciano, Lennox, Foreman, Frazier, Holmes and Johnson vie for the next few slots on my list, with Ali at one and Louis at two. Then Tyson, Holyfield, Liston, Wlad, Dempsey and Charles come after that.

Boxing's history is fun like that. The more you watch, the more you realize how little you really know.

    Please settle this travesty.

"Ali would beat any Active HW, so would Larry Holmes, Mike Tyson and George Foreman."

Do you think this is quoting Holmes, Tyson and Foreman or just stating that they'd accomplish the same feet as Ali? English is my 2nd language so figured I'd ask.

Fair enough, it was your insinuation that Ali wouldn't get hit which I was questioning but maybe I was taking your comment too literally when you were probably just exaggerating to make a point. I can't argue with any of the points in this post bar the last sentence but we are all entitled to our own opinions, the forum would be pretty boring if we all agreed on everything.

For sure. I overstated a bit there while making my point.

    H2H No specific order:

    A. natural born heavies:

    Fury.
    Wlad.
    Joshua.
    Vitali.
    Lewis.

    B. Small punchers:

    Tyson.
    Holyfield.
    Haye.
    Foreman.
    Tua.
    Ibeabuchi.

    C. Pillow pop runners:

    Ali.
    Cunningham.
    Byrd.
    Chambers.
    Scott.

Prime Ali at 201-214 lbs (depending on bf%) would have a weak chin for the hw division of today.

He would have no pop at all. Weak punch.
SHWs wouldnt respect him. Just as George. But a small Ali that clinched with a 4 lbs heavier Foreman wouldnt be strong enough to keep it up against 240+ pounders.

Ali were also outjabbed by Ken Norton... A way worse jabber than wlad klitschko for example - not to mention tyson fury.

Ali cant knock out these guys.
    Ali wont get respected.
    Ali cant outreach them.
    Ali wont clinch them.
Ali cant take their power punches.

Understand how small the key to success would be for Ali:

Hit and run for 12 rounds to a Point decision with no time for rest.

Against superior jabbers that just needs to land that one clean shot from either hand - to end - or atleast change the fight drastically.

Just think about klitschko vs haye (without the punchers chance) to get some perspective.

Klitschko outboxed the smaller and faster Haye. But imagen klitschko not concerned of that overhand right that could end the fight at any given moment. Because it doesnt even exist...

He would box just as he pleases.

This is like arguing with braindead people...

Just because someone screamed he was the greatest 50 years ago doesnt mean that he would still be the greatest today...

    Sorry for the late reply.

In order of importance, ability always has to come first.

If Usyk fought Joshua, it wouldn't matter to me what the outcome was. It wouldn't sway my opinion on how I think Ali would have done. Like you've noted, the fighters we're looking at are/were completely different from each other.

I don't know who I'd have favoured over the best version of Ali. But I can envisage a scenario where a number of HW's could have beaten him, and I agree with you, in that sometimes he does get overrated.

I have no issue with anyone saying he was overrated.

I have no issue with people saying they think he'd lose to modern HW's.

The only issue I have, is where people have ignorantly claimed that he couldn't even have competed today, based upon size and the progression of other sports.
