This has nothing to do with the discussion, Toney was caught for using illegal substances in the fight and was stripped for it and was also banned, it wasn't a joke what happened like you're trying to make it out to be.

Then Toney was desperate for a good fight to cover up for that fiasco(which was him using illegal substances) and Vitali Klitschko, the man he talked trash about the MOST, comes with a very good offer. Toney plain out ducked that fight If anything, Vitali offered Toney $3Million, a free shot at the WBC title despite Toney accomplishing NOTHING but trash talking in the division and a fight he ALWAYS asked for in every single interview.

Want to explain why did he exactly turn down that offer?, did he have better options?, the answer is NO. If anything, Toney was the one desperate for any half decent offer at that point and it SHOWED as he progressed yet Vitali was kind enough to make the call, something Toney SHOULD have done instead of talking junk behind a microphone whilst chewing on Zinger Supremes in KFC.

Todays version of Toney no ****ing way, Period, like I said he needs to figure out a way to beat Rahman before he signs his own death warrant against either Klitschko and Byrd did get a gift with Vitali, and he got beat up twice by Wlad whats your point in even pointing out Byrd?
Toney doesnt even have that work rate anymore for god sakes man come back down to earth.

I would strongly advise any fighter not to agree to a fight with VITKLIT...

...he has set the most disgusting of precedents, in backing out of a consecutive FIVE, high profile professional boxing matches.

James Toney was wise not get caught up in the messy joke that has become Vitali Klitschko's career...James was much wiser hanging out at KFC, and fighting boxers who actually show up to their scheduled bouts.

Height wise they are the same, but their styles are completely different. Tyson was able to cut the ring in no time, and his head movement made it difficult to keep him on distance with jab. With this style, being short was almost an advantage.

Toney does not move too much - usually just stands in the front of his opponent, makes him miss, and counters. This worked well with opponents like Rahman, Peter or Holyfield - who were just a little bigger (and all of them are slow BTW). I doubt it would work at all against Wlad, who is oficially more than 8 inches higher, with similar disparity in reach.

I watched the entire fight at the time and Byrd did win more than 2 rounds, the judges scorecard were inaccurate as it is always the case in Germany. Plus after the first 2 rounds Byrd had Klitschko totally confused. Just watch at the schooling in that 9th round.

While this tape could give us an indication how Toney would deal with Vitali, it does not tell us much about the outcome against Waldo. Waldo is more skilled technically and has a better tactics under Steward now. Waldo would probably beat Toney by decision but not by KO.

The bottom line is he was clearly losing, even with opponent who could only use one hand from some point of the fight. If you have seen Byrd winning (or even close fight) you can apply for judges licence in Germany yourself ;-)

Byrd just made Vitali looking bad, and he was able to do it against almost every opponent. 9th round was just before Vitali decided to quit, so any kind of schooling had more to do with injury than anything else.

If the scoring had been decent. Byrd could have won that fight in scorecards, if he would have won last three rounds.

Vitali clearly thought that too and that is why he quit, rather than continued.

I agree, in the States Byrd would have won 3 or 4 rounds. I do no pretend that Byrd was actually winning the fight but it was closer than the judges card. Inn terms of ring generalship Byrd was doing very well but I guess those dumbass german judges have never heard of it.
