Pep fought Lulu Perez in MSG in February of 1954. He went down 3 times in the 2nd round forcing a stoppage. Is there any truth to the reports that he took a dive in that one?
I'm not sure. The boxing commision suspended him after that, but not explicitly for faking it. Someone wrote an article on it years later, saying the buzz was strong that the fix was in, but the article didn't call Pep by name. Still, Pep tried to sue, but the court listened to the evidence and I suppose they weren't convinced that Pep didn't take a dive, and he lost the lawsuit. Or at least that's how I remember it. thanks for the info. i noticed that on boxrec they mentioned it was a possible fix. i have this fight in my collection and i just thought he had an off night or something. i guess a fix would make sense.
