May 22nd sees Staples Center host a very exciting doubleheader. Two fighters i rate very highly in bantamweights Yonnhy Perez and Abner Mares for the IBF belt in Perez' first defence along with the 4th Vasquez-Marquez bout. Should be great. Who wins?
I got Marquez given he's got more left in the tank than Vazquez, who appears to be finished, although maybe this is just one of those fights, where Izzy has the style and presence to always give Rafa a tough night even if he's way past his best. As for Mares v Perez, I'm an admirer of Mares' technical skills and I think he's definately got the good's to become a world champion, but Perez has been on great form recently and showed his ability to box under pressure against Agbeko and also at times against Mabuza, and he can obviously bang aswell. He's got the edge in top level experience aswell it would seem, although Mares has tasted pressure on the world stage at the Olympics. This is real difficult for me to call.
Dude I cant believe Mares is taking this fight. I dont know how prepared he is but Perez is def a tough test. Hopefully this doesnt end like Ortiz/Maidana but I do hope its that good of a fight.
