Performances that don't get their due because they were too dominant?

    As for Loma-Rigo...

I personally didn't know what to expect beforehand. I wrote on this board that I could see Rigo with his reach, power and precision being a threat to Loma at his best despite the size disparity, but that it was very hard to know how much he had left at 37 with his lack of activity. And after the fight I also think it's hard to know just how much his injured hand effected him.

20 year old Ray ‘Boom Boom’ Mancini scoring a near shutout over 12 rounds over Jose Luis Ramirez who though only a few years older, had already amassed an incredible record of 70+ wins (3 defeats) when they fought for the NABF lightweight title in 1981. Mancini unexpected dominance would lead straight to an world title shot against WBC champion Alexis Arguello in his next bout three months later.

    Floyd was great.

    What was he, 36?

No, Canelo doesn't fight like Maidana did. But a mature version like the one we're seeing today, would never have stood off him like that and showed him as much respect.

Ali-Liston I is another very good shout. Yes, the scorecards were even after six rounds, but anyone who know what they're looking at can see that Ali was in control except for the 5th, when he fought half blind. This from a 1-8 underdog.

And everyone with half a brain and who isn't badly biased can see that Sonny tried to take Ali's head off, but still too many either call this a fix or try some revisionist version that a man seven months from his best performance was way past his prime.

The bout took place before I joined this forum, but I can assure you that absolutely no one I was discussing this contest with, as it approached, even saw it as a credible matchup, let alone a match Marquez could conceivably win.

And, I'm not sure what you consider to be a 'big favorite' but most punters would have interpreted odds of greater than 4-1 on, for Mayweather, as making him the considerable favorite.

Loma was a 9-1 favorite against rigo who moved up 2 weight classes at 37 and it's regularly cited as masterclass around here. Nothing else needs to be said. It's an overlooked performance and you are examplifying that

I couldn't care less about the Lomachenko/Rigondeaux fight and have no opinion on it. If that one has put a bee in your bonnet then that's your problem - so, you're right, nothing else need be said on that case.

I've not stated anywhere that I don't think Mayweather/Marquez is an overlooked performance. Rather, I have explained why I think it is often overlooked and might even be dismissed altogether, by some.

Your replies to my posts seem to be consistently irrelevant - so, perhaps you should call it a day.

Many times a past fight, a spectacular win is overlooked simply because it’s been replayed many many times. Like a great old song that everyone knows to the point that it becomes boring. Also superior technical efforts can be discounted by fans who just don’t know what they are seeing such as Louis Schmeling 1.

Where do you get "greater than 4-1" from?

The printed news, of the times.
    Not a narrow favorite.
