Performances where fighters disappointed you

Eastman against Joppy, with Joppy clearly there for the taking.

Haye against Valuev. Some people have called it a boxing clinic, a superb performance against a much bigger man. I call it shitting out after running your mouth off. Boxing off the back foot IS NOT the same as running away.

Froch against Kessler. Froch insisted on going to war with Kessler. No need son, no need. Really dissapointed me as I think Froch could have taken the fight comfortably.

 

The whole world should of been disappointed in Vitali for his effort against Lewis. He couldn't beat an unmotivated, fat 38 year old with a supposed glass chin and to top it off he acted a like a petulant little ****.

 

To be fair I think he tried damn hard but just wasn't good enough. Agree with the petulant bit though. Seriously trying to discredit the guy who just beat you shows a total lack of class.

 

Fernando Montiel in his fight with Mark "Too Sharp" Johnson.

Johnson had recently lost twice to Rafael Marquez, the second by TKO, and just didn't look like the force of old anymore. Montiel conversley was on the up, and had just become a two weight world champion.

But Montiel just seemed to freeze on the occasion and lost by MD (It wasn't close for me - I had Johnson winning comfortably).

It was a major disappointment of a fight - Montiel just never got going.

Johnson went on to lose the title to Ivan Hernandez, who Montiel then beat in turn. And Montiel has gone from strength to strength since then, despite a set back to Jhonny Gonzalez, and now resides in most people's P-4-P lists.

I just can't agree with people being pissed off with how haye fough valuev. What did people expect? Stand and trade with a giant? The physical differences would make that boxing suicide. Hate was smart in that fight. Granted the Harrison fight was an attrocity that should never been allowed to happen, but people watched.
Really, people need to recognise haye v valuev for what it was. A much smaller guy fighting an intelligent fight

Holyfield did a better job than Haye did, but was ripped off something rotten.

 

Come on beaston, you lost the "2010 Hater of the Year" award. Stuff like that is far too tame to put you in the running for next year...

 

I agree re Holyfield. And to a point I agree re the low volume he threw. But what I liked and what was special to watch was seeing a good gameplan play out and work. It isn't often that Britain produces a fighter talented enough to develop and carry out a game plan so effectively against a man who carries so many advantages over you. I am not the biggest haye or booth(especially) fan, but what they did was special especially on foreign ground.
There will always be the argument that haye is not big enough for heavy, and he should move back to cruiser, but he's been there and done that. So now he just needs to man the **** up and face a klitchko

 

Agree with everyone who said Woods vs Tarver. Really expected Clinton to do the business :-(

 

Marquez vs Mayweather

Mayweather obviously alot bigger and put on a masterclass but I really expected Marquez to be more competitive.

 

This is a straw man argument. Not running away does not mean standing and trading.

You're right, it was a well executed gameplan - he did run very well. It was just an incredibly dissapointing one given his bluster. And that's the name of the thread

 

I think a pre-Trinidad version of Vargas would have had a great chance against De La Hoya. He definitely had the talent to become a great fighter, but as you say he was pretty much shot at 25 years old.

 

Ok, so it was dissapointing to some how he fought. Not me, because I didn't expect him stand in front of him and get hit. I guarantee if he had have done people would have called him a mug for doing so, and he would have just been another Brit who couldn't survive on the world scene
