I'll try to make this brief ... separated left shoulder was misdiagnosed, left without tape or brace support for healing and AC joint healed out of place. Nothing I can do about it now. I have full range of motion but have pain in fast shoulder rotations, motions that make the shoulder protrude and abruptly swinging across my body ( left hook ). Clicking in the bones when doing these motions. Orthopedic tells me nothing I can do just give it time and go about my "normal life". I'm right handed and train(ed) orthodox. However, now that my left shoulder is limited in extreme motions; I can't train orthodox without significant pain. The biggest issues are hooks, but constant throwing out the jab can take a toll. I do seem to be able to throw a left straight without issue since it doesn't seem to cause the bones / joint to motion where there is bad contact. I have been out of training for 7 months and dying to get back. Is my best bet to start from scratch training strong side stance? If so - any pointers on how to go about it after having a foundation in orthodox? Advanced apologies if my post wreaks of newbness - I'm just dying for some knowledgeable direction and you guys are my best bet. Thanks!
You've answered your own question. How often does a orthadox fighter use a right hook? How often does a southpaw use a left hook. I spent two weeks in the gym boxing southpaw and I can now switch reasonably well. The biggest adjustment will be your defence. Everything seems to come from a funny angle and you don't quite know where to put your hands so take it easy in sparring till you get going again. The power I can generate in my left cross is frightening. I'd say its harder then my right cross and i'm right handed. Be patient, learn the new way to box and good luck.
