It's difficult to choose between Pea and Jones as Fighter of the 90s, because two of Pea's prime years are excluded from the time period (88+89), and he was pretty clearly past his prime by around '97 (or earlier), whereas Jones was still peak after '99. I think Pea was a greater and better fighter than Roy overall, but I think Roy defined the decade and so I'd go with him as fighter of that particular ten-year period. He was p4p#1 for longer, he had the Hopkins, Toney, Hill and second Griffin wins in the 90s, won belts in 3 divisions, and his absolute peak was 94-98 IMO. Pea is one of those guys who suffers in "...of the decade" arguments because his prime began at the end of one decade (88ish) and ended around the middle of the next decade.

He definately rates above Jones Jnr on quality of opposition alone.

If he'd got the win he deserved against Chavez this wouldnt be a question.

I thought he looked largely like **** against Quartey except for in spurts. I had him losing that fight by a point, which was all the worse considering how one-paced Quartey's fight plan was. I've seen the Whitaker fight multiple times and always had Pea ahead. Very close fight, but Whitaker was the superior ring general in there.

I agree with you all the way about him only looking good in spurts but he did what he had to do in crunch time, I had Quartey up by 1 point going into the 12th and IF not for the big round from Oscar he would have lost or gotten a draw at best on my card. I thought the Quartey fight was much closer than the Whittaker fight I had OScar winning 115-112 against whittaker.
