yes and just before his ring music entrance tolls over the sound system he whips into a phonebooth hurls himself around at lightning speed, emerges sporting red and blue spandex attire accessorised by a fetching red cape and strikes a pose resembling an ancient greek statue he then immediately proceeds to dish out a schooling to chavez while single handedly navigating the globe in .2 of a nano second.
Where is the outrage from the Pea fans? Obviously the Vasquez fight was a close fight, a case can even be made that Vazquez deserved to win..... I dont even remember exactly how I scored the Vazquez-Whitaker fight, except to say that I had it close...... .....the only thing I remember is the total outrage I felt as I was watching Vazquez bank rounds, and the commentators ignoring everything except fawning over Pernell Whitaker. Where is the outrage Whitaker fans.....an obvious close fight.....and you have ridiculous wide scores by the official judges. You all have the audacity to complain about Chavez-Whitker, but not a peep about obvious and biased ridiculous wide scores in Whitaker-Vasquez! At the time that I watched the Vasquez-Whitaker fight, I was puzzled as to why the outrage for Chavez-Whitaker....competitive all the way through...... ....when I saw Vasquez-Whitaker and the nonchalance of the commentators ignoring everything Vazquez did well, and then not a peep with the outrageous scores......all the pieces came together for me and I understood that the media and judges alike had a love affair with Pernell Whitaker, as if he could do no wrong..... I dont know, but for me, I think Whitaker became a protected fighter by the media and judges alike after so much outrage was depicted after his fight with Chavez...... .....the media put Whitaker in such a high pedestal, they could not stand eating their own words, and turn right around so soon after Chavez-Whitaker and say Whitaker was'nt the boxer they had depicted after the Chavez fight. Its as if they were thinking, "you were done wrong in the Chavez fight" as a media, we will never let that happen again. Even during Whitaker getting schooled and just outright embarrassed by Diobelys Hurtado.....a guy like Larry Merchant of HBO was in defiance of what was happening in the ring, and stupidly and outright just called Hurtado a clown....refusing to acknowleadge that Pernell Whitaker was getting boxed circles around.......what the hell was that????? .....things like that, Pernell Whitaker just got preferential and biased treatment after his fight with Chavez......and I dont see any of you guys acknowleadging it.......his fight with Vazquez, Rivera, Larry Merchants dispicable comments toward Hurtado, I believe he even had Whitaker ahead or at the very least within a chance to win a decision at the time of stoppage.:-( .....yet where is the criticism of that from you uppity high on a pedestal Pea fans who fawn over him even over a Vasquez fight were he obviously looked shitty. I'm sorry, but at the risk of getting shelled by you all Whitaker fans. Thats how I saw things back then.......and its the way I feel. I guess what I want from you Whitaker fans is an explanation on why you all dont criticize judging in fights like Vazquez and Rivera, you all simply ignore those things and instead are so eager to praise Pernell Whitaker. I dont feel there is anything wrong with giving Whitaker credit for fighting a tough JC Vasquez, but dont ignore the fact that the scores indicate that Vazquez was never going to get a fair chance at a decision. I see it all the time in boards like these....opinions that Whitaker's only real loss was to Felix Trinidad....whats laughable to me is some of you die-hard Whitaker fans staying silent on the matter and simply ignoring that there were fights on Whitaker's ledger that can be rightfully argued could have gone against him.....fights like Vazquez and Rivera.....yet here comes a :good from you all when a post arises of the opinion that Whitaker only legit loss is in a fight where he was coked up against a destroyer like Trinidad. Acknowleadgement that like other fighters, Pea also benefited from being the more popular fighter! Its simple my friends! Wow, my apologies for going slightly off topic, but I've already been compelled to write all this..... ....I must press "submit reply.:blood
Understandable points. I guess it's because of the high stakes involved in Chavez vs. Pea. People feel Pea was robbed out of a HUGE victory. Vasquez probably has less fans than Pea, and that's another huge factor. I am a huge fan of Whittaker, and even I said earlier on in this very same thread that without Vasquez's point deductions, I scored the fight a draw. So, whilst I see the decision as somewhat controversial, I feel this is just swings in roundabouts as far as Pernell's concerned.
Underrated because: 1. He wasn't a heavyweight 2. He didn't KTFO people 3. Most of the boxing public don't actually know **** about boxing Sweet Pea is a boxing afficianado's type of fighter. Mike Tyson is an average boxing viewer's type of fighter (although he too could be the favourite of a boxing afficianado).
Divac, does your knowledge of boxing extend outside of Julio Cesar Chavez and Pernell Whitaker? I've never seen you post on a different topic, aside from a few posts about JMM, as he seems to be your favorite current fighter. All you ever seem to do is make ridiculously long-winded posts about how much you dislike Whitaker because of how badly he schooled Chavez. And LMAO at you claiming Hurtado was schooling Whitaker using running tactics that would make Pea cringe, but refusing to acknowledge Whitaker's effectiveness against Chavez.
Thats where you lose credibility. You call Chavez-Whitaker a schooling, but refuse to acknowleadge that Whitaker was getting outright embarrassed in there vs Hurtado. I'm sorry, but that was an embarrassing performance by Pernell Whitaker vs Hurtado. As for my knowleadge and selection of topics.....I suggest you pry into my history of posts here, they're open to all of us you know? Look at my history, and you'll find that I rarely post anything related to either Chavez or Whitaker......these topics are the only time you notice me, as you're one thats involved in everyone of them licking Pea's exterior!
Top line - I always wondered why such an important fight, a fight which made Whitaker only the 4th man in boxing history to win a title in 4 weights (SRL, Hearns, Duran were the other 3) was rarely mentioned... so I ordered it & found out the reason why... it was a real shitty fight, very boring with very little action. 2nd line - I thought Whitaker looked like the smaller man in the 1st McGirt fight but looked at least equal in size to both McGirt (rematch) & Chavez. Last line - Whitaker won the fight in my eyes but those scores were a piece of nonsense, it was way closer than that, Pernell just didnt look comfortable boxing at that weight at all, I think he even says so himself, thats why he went straight back to WWT. All in all, Pea is one of the best ever & makes my top 10 all time list of boxers that I have seen fight. He finishes a very close 2nd to JC Chavez as the best fighter in the last 25 yrs IMO. :thumbsup
He wasn't being embarassed, as Hurtado was hardly putting out the effort to make such a word neccessary, but he was definitely losing. He'd clearly lost his legs by that point and had to switch tactics to win against a superior physical specimen at that stage. He was actually able to switch tactics, unlike Chavez, who was simply schooled all night long. Sure it was, in the same way that Ali had an embarassing performance against Leon Spinks. If you don't see the vast differences between the Pea of this bout and a prime Pea than I don't know what to tell you. Don't you mean posterior? Regardless of whether or not you post in other topics, you still make your way into every one of these topics and manage to make an essay length post recycling the same old nonsense you've been posting for the last few years, most of it off-topic. Give it a rest.
Ive seen the top 3 way more than the bottom 3 but Whitaker is on the same kind of level as these guys, he is more complete than RJJ but Id rank SRL & Duran a notch higher, not a very big notch mind you. :thumbsup
