been reading alot about pernell whitaker recently but have not really watched any of his fights just highlights and was wondering if anyone could recommend whats fights i should watch of his. cheers

just watched chavez fight tht was unreal man a thought first few rounds were close but whitaker dominated from middlle rounds onwards very bad robbery
The Azumah Nelson fight is worth checking out. The NABF title fight with Roger Mayweather is a fun one, too.
His most dominant performances were probably against Greg Haugen and the rematch with Ramirez. He didn't lose any one-minute period of either fight. The Nelson fight and the Mcgirt rematch see him thoroughly undress world-class fighters.
Probably the most entertaining bout of his I've seen all the way through is his fight with Roger Mayweather. Pernell was a youngster with only a few fights and Mayweather was already an ex-champ and the two just did not get along. It was a wild, nasty affair. As has been mentioned, he totally undressed Nelson and Ramirez, who are respectively an ATG and a hard puncher with over 100 wins. Both of his fights with Buddy McGirt were great technical fights, with just a ridiculous amount of technique and skill on both sides. His fight with Julio Cesar Vazquez is worth watching, if only to see how he performed at his highest weight against his biggest opponent. (Keep in mind Vazquez was basically The Man at 154 because Terry Norris was being really spotty at the time, was a big puncher, had scored the Ring's KO of the year the year before and had also beaten a young Winky Wright the year before, knocking Wright down 5 times to a decision win.) I also have a soft spot for his win against Pineda, the win that got Pernell a 140 belt. Pineda was a much bigger guy, a very accurate and hard puncher, and Pernell stayed right within range the entire fight and took him to school. It's more than a little like Rigo-Donaire. It makes for good proof that anyone who says Pernell was a runner is talking out their ass. Afterward Pineda went into retirement, then came back like 7 years later, KO'd Oba Carr, (who prior to that had only lost to Trinidad, Oscar, and Quartey) and gave both Cory Spinks and Zab Judah tough fights.
