If Mayweather beats Cotto (probable) and retires (a strong possibility I believe) who would you judge to have had the greater career, him or Pernell Whitaker? For me its quiete a close one.
Sweet pea by long shot!!!!!!!!sweet pea fought bigger people than him his whole boxing life and wasn't scared to do it,oh and won!80 percent of the people mayweather fights are smaller or already washed up!anybody can continue to fight smaller and washed up fighters an be 100 -0,so what!
I would venture to say, tie. Sweet pea fought a load of fighters people wouldn't dare touch and OBLITERATED them. Floyd fought the best of the crop but his era isn't as highlighted. Below he defeated tops such as Diego Corrales, Angel Manfredy, Genaro Hernandez, Zab Judah, Victor Ortiz & Jose Luis Castillo but the average fan isn't wise enough to know how dangerous any of these fighters are. Washed up and old? All debatable and mostly false: 1. Oscar De La Hoya (After knocking out Mayorga) 2. Shane Mosley (After knocking out Antonio Margarito) 3. Carlos Baldomir (After knocking out Arturo Gatti and beating Zab Judah) 4. ? Mayweather fought a Ricky Hatton who was already a Welterweight Champion and a Juan Manuel Marquez that was jumping weight classes to fight him. Those are the only two smaller fighters people talk about and one can't count.
Floyd needs a win over Manny to be in contention (a defining fight if there ever was one). I believe a win over Manny and a miracle 160 title over Sergio could potentially (and imo, would most likely) put him above Pernell. Don't see that happening, but irrespective of who wins, would love for both to come off.
Pernell and it's not even close. /Thread Floyd's ATG resume still lacks an ATG, only reason he is so high is because his 0
