Whitaker had more versatility, because he could be comfortable toe-to-toe and in-the-pocket even with fighters much naturally bigger/stronger. Defensively, however, I feel Whitaker was more athletic talent rather than technical skill. I feel he relied on speed, reflexes and range of movement more, whereas Sumbu was all judgement and timing of motion, and the better counter-puncher. Only Benitez countered as well as Kalambay, and possibly Toney at his very best at times.
