I think Whitaker wins a close decision. They're both close to evenly matched, with Mayweather having more pop (although Pea did have some respectable power in his left), but I think Whitaker's jab and workrate would be the difference.

They never fought, and never would've. However, apparently Whitaker was never troubled by Taylor in their sparring sessions. How do we know it? Because Whitaker said it, of course!

*May would be Pea's worst nightmare... U have to keep may honest... if u can't keep may away with power, then ur in for a long night... I'm not sure Pea beats Chico Corales at lightweight... May was just simpley toooo dominating... people forget that at lightweight, May was taking fighters out... May would hit harder than Pea, would be faster than Pea and was bigger than Pea... Pea is crafty, not fast... May on the other hand is able to adjust in the ring... may puts a beating on Pea...in his prime.

I agree, if the guy who i feel strongly is the best fighter in the world today is going to get embarrassed then that means we might as well just stop watching boxing because it's a shambles. It clearly isn't the case. I favour Whitaker simply because of how highly i think of him, his ability to control a fight is some of the finest ever, Mayweather might be able to adapt when things aren't going the best for him but Whitaker is variation personified and could likely be a step ahead all the way,

I definitely hear where you are coming from...It isn't a knock on Mayweather though. I think Pete was just that special. And I think you nailed it...Whitaker was variation personified. Cheers.

    At lightweight I like Whitaker.
I think the fight would start off slow with Mayweather in his defensive shell and Whitaker taking shots at Mayweather's shoulder. The fight will pick up in the 5th round. Whitaker's southpaw stance will give Mayweather probblems. Mayweather's right hand lead/left hook combos will give Whitiker probblems as well. Mayweather also enjoys a size advantage of 2" in height and 3" in reach which could prove to be a factor in the fight. I think that in most exchanges Whitaker is going to be quicker to the draw. I also think that Whitaker sells his defense to the judges better than Mayweather dose. When someone misses Whitaker it is obivous. Mayweather who has an exlent defense in his own right takes a lot of shots to the shoulder and while he can make his oppoents flat out miss him it is not as obovous as when Whitaker makes someone miss him. With Mayweather you sometimes have to watch the replay to see the punches miss, and still it is not as pretty as the way Whitaker makes someone miss.
This is by no means going to be an easy fight for either boxer.
I think their power at this weight is underrated espicily Whitaker's. However I don't see any knockdowns let alone knockouts.
On their best night at 135. I like Whitaker to win. I think the 3 judges would score it 116-112, 117-111 and 115-113. In other words a close but clear decision for Prenell Whitaker.
