Whitaker would win despite his size disadvantage, the smaller Quartey and Mosley (rematch) won rounds against him, Whitaker is the better pure boxer, quicker with more tools in his bank, Winky is a little predictable.
Winky by UD in a surprisingly entertaining fight. Too big, too strong and a too high workrate. Whitaker was less mobile, his workrate dropped and he had absolutly nothing to trouble Winky or hold him off. Winky would impose himself on Pernell, pressuring him behind his defence and with his jab and just outwork him. Whitaker would win his fair share of rounds but not enough. Winky is not in the class of Whitaker but the size advantage and that Whitaker fights at a weight he isn´t really comfortable at turns the odds on his favour IMO.
I gotta agree with this. Winky eventually got to 170 and stayed reasonably effective. He's so much bigger than Whitaker, so much longer, and has a high work rate and good skills himself. This is just a bridge to far. Pernell is one of my favorite fighters, bar none, but I can't take a 5 foot 6 natural lightweight to beat Wright, even one as good as Pernell.
You've got it backwards...Whitaker is not in Winky's class at 154. This is why weight classes exist in the first place.
I think its too much to ask of Pea at 154. I would favor Winky but it would be close It really could go either way.
I'm tempted to say Wright wins for the same reason I'd pick Hearns, Ray Leonard and Robinson to beat Whitaker. Their size advantage. However, Whitaker more than held his own against De La Hoya. Granted the bout was at 147. De La Hoya when he fought Whitaker was a better boxer than Wright at 154. My opinion is that if Whitaker who was past his best could be competive and in some peoples view beat a prime De La Hoya, he would beat Wright at 154.
