Curry could work the body very well inside, and likely would have in this situation. I'm not speculating on an outcome here, just wanted to point out that Don was as versatile as any champion of his era, and could adopt any style. He ceded the inside to Starling in their first match (and let Starling defeat himself with inactivity), but might have taken a more proactive role against a southpaw like Pernell.

a very close fight whitaker at welter did not move as much so could be hit more at the higher weight but i still favour whitaker to sneak a sd win

I don't think it'd be a draw, that's a comparatively rare outcome. I just don't know who'd gain the upper hand throughout the match. Both were so good, Whitaker more proven, but Curry with the physical advantages at WW.

    Curry by decision
He would have all the advantages, Including youth & natural size.
(Pea's best days were before WW, That said it is a pick 'em still....)

    But i'll pick Curry.

At welterweight Curry has some skills to potentially win this. But Whittaker can still win this because he just can pull great things off. Looks like i'll pick Curry though (but i don't feel right about it)

Curry would be in his face all night firing pinpoint punches. A peak Curry wins a tight decision with tons of ebb and flow.

Curry by late round stoppage( considering if it's a 15 round fight), or UD. Pernell would have his moments, especially if this is the Curry of 86.

No stoppage. No evidence whatsoever to suggest that Curry could've stopped Whitaker. Trinidad couldn't do it to a shot and inactive Whitaker, and he could hit far harder than Curry at WW.

Curry is more at home with a boxing match instead of a brawl and in that sense he's 1 of the best of all times. Speed, footwork, combinations and movement are all sublime. He'd be faster and bigger than Whitaker who would be forced to take the back foot and would get beaten to the punch more often than not for my money. However obviously Curry's connect percentage isn't going to be very high as Whitaker's too cagey but I see him outlanding Whitaker
