I picked Margorito calling him out, then when Pernell accepts, Margie hides for a few days then has his agent phone Whitaker and tell him he is going to pass on the fight..

Virtual shutout for Pea. Margarito lacks the footwork to catch him in any bad spots, and his shots are too wide and slow to catch him clean or do much damage even if he were able to.

Ambition_Def will be in here soon to make the comparison between this fight and Pea's fights with Rivera soon enough, claiming that Pea was very much in his prime for those fights due to the fact that he was only 32, as age is of course the only indicator of a fighter's prime. Seriously, he's made that comparison before.

people are forgetting that margo was getting outboxed pretty badily against cotto, until cotto's stamina ****ed him and he started running. Honestly wah do you think pernell would do to margo, (box his ****ing head off) plus pernell is a deffensive master and can't be caught, with brilliant stamina too.

I would not go as far as Pernell winning every round. Pernell at 147 was hittable. With all the punches Marg throws, I feel that it could have been competitive. I think frustration would set in for Marg due to Pernell's style of making you miss. Pernell would diffinitely make you pay. Pernell by MD.

9-0 i think the margo fans aren't voting because they know it's a public poll

He was a tad more hittable due to his more flat-footed style (though he was still a ring master), but not by slow, wide punchers who lack any ability to cut off the ring. Unless we're talking a late 90's version (even then, if he were to come in shape and motivated, he'd win a handy decision). Majority Decision? Get real.

I think the only fight he ever fought unmotivated was the Tito fight. I believe he was off for one year. No question he was not a ring master, but I don't think he would shut out Marg with Marg's offensive style. I believe if we were all back in those days and Marg had to train for Pernell, of course he would have to shorten his punches and come in with a great game plan, but will still lose.

:rofl Why was this asked? Whittaker has more skill in his pinky than Margo has through out his whole body.

He was actually quite motivated for the Tito fight, he was just physically shot by that time. He was generally less interested, out of shape, and showing clear signs of decline once he came back down from facing Vasquez at 154. It didn't show against the likes of Jacobs and Rodriguez, but did against Rivera in their first affair in which he almost lost only to beat him more convincingly (but by this point it was obvious he was really slipping) in the rematch. The fight with De La Hoya was the last one he was able to really get up and pull out that Whitaker magic for.
