So far this poll's a clean sweep for Whitaker if you take out the pity/joke votes from selfkill and walk with me. Pretty impressive that ESB has managed to be consistent for a change.
i'll give Trinidad the benefit of the doubt and say he sees the final bell, but only just. The 12th round would be like the 12th in Marquez vs Vasquez 3.
Excuse me? I'm not joking, and don't disrespect either me or Margarito by suggesting otherwise. I stated my reasons for why I believe Whitaker would lose. He is the better fighter and more accurate, as was Cotto, but numerous knockdowns would make it an uphill struggle for Pernell who didn't have the power to keep Margarito off of him. I'm prepared to give Pea the benefit of the doubt, he sees the 12th but barely.
And Maragrito is too one dimensional for Whitaker at his best at 147lbs. He'd get jabbed silly up the middle. Trinidad couldn't get a shot and inactive Whitaker out of there over 12 rounds. Another thing about Margarito is that he's not a free flowing puncher. He's measured and precise. His feet aren't fast enough to close down Whitaker and give him problems. Whitaker has better ring generalship than Cotto and has a more varied and complex defense to penetrate often as well.
:huh Alright, you've got me reeling. I thought for sure it was a joke, but usually those trolling for a response would've come clean by now. To be clear, you're seriously serious?
I always talk sense and don't have opinions that get laughed at. Look at my track record on ESB. :good
Which is why, rather than in the 7th round, it would be much later that Sweet Pea tastes the canvas. The man has been hurt before, the Roger Mayweather fight comes to mind, and Margarito's size and power makes that a possibility. Sweet wins practically every round until the 10th, where Pea tastes the canvas atleast 4 times. Too wide of a gap at that point, and he just runs to survive in typical Pea fashion in the 12th.
Margarito is significantly bigger than Sweet. I think his size and power would overwhelm the defensive master, who would be forced to succumb to Antonio extremely late in the bout. Very watchable and entertaining fight, but I will go for a shock upset.
The way Cotto boxes and the way Pernell boxes are quite different. I'm not going to list all of the many ways, but basically Pernell is going to be able to counterpunch and downright humiliate Margarito's wide shots. Pernell doesn't need to use "power" to keep Margarito off. Margarito would be missing a lot of his punches and would never be able to trap Whitaker anywhere in the ring.
Pea. He's choosing Margarito to be different from everyone else. It's obvious that Margarito's one paced plodding style is made for Whitaker. He doesn't have serious Hearns like power, he's not got a fast and accurate jab, he lacks upperbody and head movement. Margarito's defense is open as country field for Whitaker's, sharp, scoring punches.
