A classic bout that could have happened, but never did: Hector "Macho" Camacho vs. Pernell "Sweet Pea" Whitaker. Who wins this battle (prime vs. prime)? Please vote between these two legendary figures
Hector Camacho is so underrated. People would automatically think he would get dominated by Whitaker. Prime for prime...this is a tight fight. Hector Camacho was the best fighter in the world p4p in 1982-1987 and had some of the fastest hands ever and a very exciting style. Both were southpaws, but Whitaker has the edge in defense and trickiness. Whitaker will have trouble evading Camacho's shots as easy as he has other fighters but is a superior counterpuncher and has better head movement than MachoMan so a tight descision win for Whitaker is the most likely verdict. It would be very entertaining.
That would be the one. Apparently Whitaker was getting the better of the boxing exchanges and Camacho had to resort to using dirty tactics, which caused them to stop the match because it was getting out of hand.
I can't believe that "Macho" Camacho isn't getting more votes. He fought better opponents in his career, and hits harder.
I heard a siimilar story about Floyd getting the worst of it in a sparring session with (Spafora?). I do not think sparring always translates to a real fight.
Marion Wilson has fought better opponents than Alexander Povetkin. Samuel Peter hits harder than a prime Muhammad Ali. You see my point, right?
The Spadafora/Mayweather session is on tape, I've seen the full 6 rounds. Sparring may not translate well to a real fight, but when one of the opponents is an amateur, and the pro needs to resort to using dirty tactics to get in the fight, it says something about how a bout between the two would go when the amateur is in his prime.
So the fact that he lost to the majority of his top opposition while Whitaker beat his doesn't mean a thing to you? The fact that Chavez dominated him and was dominated by Whitaker doesn't ring any bells? The story that has been posted regarding the two doesn't persuade you at all?
