Indeed, but could they pull out the win? Whitaker is one that comes IMMEDIATELY to mind however. Hearns would be a nightmare for SRR but, Robinson had the tools to take it.
Whitaker did want to fight Camacho was the reason this fight never happened, Camacho would have won IMO just the style alone would be bad for Whitaker.
 You are young huh? Camacho called out Whitaker several times then would not put up a belt and only spilt the purse 40%! Don King then played it off as Hector was ducking of course when he would accept such a poor offer (about 2 mil?). It was around 1995 and it was well reported.
In 1995, when Whitaker was the top WW and P4P fighter in the world, working for fights with McGirt(rematch), De La Hoya, Trinidad, Quartey, etc? You think Whitaker should be discredited for not fighting that past prime version of Camacho who was no longer taken half as seriously? He clearly had bigger fish to fry. Don't be a fool. Whitaker would've dominated that version of Camacho.
ROFLMAO, what the hell did Camacho have to offer in 1995? He had already been dominated by Chavez and Trinidad and was 10 years past it. Now go back 12 years before that, when Whitaker was handing Camacho his ass in th gym whilst he was still an amateur, and you'll see why the fight never happened. :good
You can use common opponents as a yardstick sometimes and sometimes you can't, but I'm convinced that Pernell Whitaker was obviously the better fighter, as he edges Macho man out on their common opponents, and I think he was stronger mentally than Camacho. The Pea just had something extra on the ball than Hector, and would have probably caused Camacho to lose his game plan and snap or something.
Right on. I think Camacho had all the tools to win except the main one between the years. I don't know if it was his partying or what but his physical talent was far greater than his mental talent. If he was as good in the mental department he may have been a top 5 ATG.
Camacho was faster, but Whitaker had damn near psychic abilities in the ring when it came to executing his gameplan and knowing what was happening before it did. That's the difference between the defensive wizardry he'd pull and how other reflexive fighters still can't do it. There's not many other fighters I can say that about. On paper, it should be a close fight with each man having a great chance at winning. In the ring though, I think Whitaker would win a clear decision more often than not because of those intangibles. I still think it's foolish to completely write off Camacho and assume it'd be a dominant win for Whitaker though. I see it being a closer fight than that because Camacho, unlike most of Pernell's opposition, had the speed to land on him and the heart and chin to not get discouraged by Whitaker's flurries. I just don't think he'd be able to do enough to win if I were betting on it.
I agree with alot of what's being said here. Camacho is very underrated here and people don't like him because he was flashy. He would give Pea a great fight. In the end I see Pea wining a close but clear UD.
