The slick southpaw vs the old school pure boxer. Could Sweet Pea make easy work against Brown? Or would Old Bones make a much more competitive boxing match than expected? Brown was definitely an underrated LW champion and at his best I could see Whitaker having trouble dealing with Brown's footwork. I think Whitaker does enough work to win against Brown by decision.
I wouldn't favor any other lightweight aside from Duran over Pea. Old Bones probably gives a good account himself, but ultimately gets outclassed. Whitaker by UD.
I'd add Mayweather to that, but yes Whitaker's pretty much untouchable at the weight. You might add the Robinson who beat Angott, but that's a big unknown of a pre-prime boxer
I used to think Sweet Pea unbeatable at LW but I no longer think so. However I do think he's quick enough to take the jab away from Bones and once that happens Brown is going to struggle to get anything going.
Whew, I like Joe Brown a lot so I'm biased here. The Pea might take a close decision but I sure wouldn't bet on this
I'm rewatching a lot of lightweight fighters throughout the years atm tbh so this is a dynamic opinion. But Duran and Armstrong I comfortably favour. Gans and Leonard I think do what he did but better. And I'm unsure about Barney Ross and Carlos Ortiz. As I've said I'm sure names will get added and subtracted when I've finished watching through them all.
Hmm, I like this fight but feel too uneducated on Brown; I've only seen him lose. @Flo_Raiden @Xplosive best performances to check out?
