Pernell Whitaker vs Julio Cesar Chavez 25 year anniversary

great fight! can't believe that much time has passed. wonder if pernell is still pissed about that robbery that night. when you have a stadium full of chavez fans quiet at the end of the fight and especially after the draw was announced, you know who REALLY won.

 

i was always a fan of chavez right from his early rise

he was a great great fighter whose style i liked

sweet pea was a great defensive fighter / but boring to watch and needed a star in the other corner to showcase his talent as he was way to good for ordinary contenders

sweet pea clearly beat chavez although at the time i was not upset as i was biased for my favourite .

 

There used to be a great video on YouTube of all the desperation low blows Whitaker landed on Chavez in that fight. At least 6 as I recall, and not a point deducted. Nothing was working for Whitaker until he started throwing those. It’s pretty clear they slowed Chavez down.

 

Pernell whipped him.
