I think the match would be better at 135 lbs, during that brief period where Manny went up and took on David Diaz (very unworthy opponent but still a destruction,) right before he moved up to WW full time. Hard to say what would've happened. Pea would have to stay focused the entire fight and really move around the ring well. I could see him outboxing Manny, but if he decided to stay in the pocket and exchange for longer than needed, than who knows. I will say though at 135 lbs, Whitaker packed a good punch himself. I could see either man hurting the other one.
I have a slightly different take. My concern is that Pea wouldn't stand and fight enough. I think that Manny's fast hands, unorthodox punching angles, and work rate might lead Pea to fight too defensively (sort of like in the first Ramirez fight, except that Manny's a far more dangerous opponent). Whitaker certainly has the skill to outbox Manny and win a decisive victory though.
Whitaker wins quite easily. It would look like the Floyd fight, only Whitaker would be active and isn't completely feather-fisted
Speed and a offence kills. If we are talking about a prime non shot, two armed pac of course. Pac would give him angles, footwork and land that straight left down the pipe and put Whitaker in a hospitla G man syle.
Arum would never have put Pac in with Prime Whitaker. Pernell wins by at least 4 rounds. Some of you are effing crazy.
Exactly, speed kills and a good defense always beats a good offense. Pea had the greatest defense of all time, an elite boxer of the highest order with one of the best chins of all time. It would be a schooling no one has ever seen before, pea by 12 UD or KO. Pea had a better chance of knocking Pac out than vice versa.
