Since when has brawling ever been the strategy to beat Whitaker? Mosley wasn't even a pressure fighter, so the fact that you admit he wasn't an elite pure boxer and the fact that Whitaker was at his best against pressure fighters leaves me a bit hazy as to how Shane should be favored under any circumstances. Respond in detail please, rather than a simple "it's my opinion, you're entitled to your own" cop-out.

I also remember DLH's stupid gameplan in that bout.

Whitaker had a very good workrate.

at 135 140 he was great at 147 he was a little less great and mosely being the bigger stronger. and just as fst figther would be the stalker. . SP would winabout 5 round how ever due to the more effecitve shots at 147 Mosely wins a close UD. and since when have i ever used a cop out like that?:huh below 147 it's a different story .

That wasn't an analysis. Mosley may very well have been the stalker, but he's never been a very skilled pressure fighter and even if he was, Whitaker feasted on pressure fighters. So how is a fighter who relies primarily on power boxing in range going to land enough on a constant mover with a superb jab(which has always been a Mosley deterrant) to win a Decision? He'd force Mosley to play the aggressor and more than likely outbox him thoroughly. Handspeed would play no role, skills and styles would be the deciding factor, and Whitaker has the clear edges in those departments.

obviously ur noy biased w/ your sweet pea avatar lol! i respect pernell but he just doesnt have enough fire power to keep ssm off of him i agree close decision just like the de la hoya decision. SSM pulls it out at the end w/ aggression..

How did he have the firepower to keep Chavez, Vasquez, Ramirez, Nelson, etc off him? There's more to boxing than firepower, such as footwork, ring control, and accuracy, which can be almost as deterring as power(watch Pea's fight with Haugen for example).

And again, Shane was not a pressure fighter, so how does he muster up the aggression needed to beat Pea when far better pressure stylists like Chavez could not?

Whitaker had enough fire-power for all of his opponents until he was an old man.

He wasn't nearly as feather-fisted as people say. He had a good left hand when he loaded up on it, a terrific bodypuncher, and a great right jab that disrupted his opponent's attacks.

i agree, he went to war a lot more than people give him credit for, in fact there were many instances where he went against his corner's orders and engaged when he didn't have to (anthony jones, the rivera fights, the mcgirt fights esp. the 2nd one)... this was mostly post-haugen, and ESPECIALLY when he went up to 147 and fought flat-footed most of the fights

he was the absolute best and i don't think anybody could've beaten him in his prime... he also had the perfect demeanor/attitude for a fighter as well.. as george foreman put it at the beginning of his first fight with mcgirt, "reminds you of that little guy who walks into a bar and says i'll fight any big guy in here... just a mean little guy" and jim lampley says: "yes, he has that kind of consciousness for sure"

the beating he gave hurtado at the end of their fight was vicious

im at work PEa i don't have the time to type a full blown analysis.

i know it's hard for you to phathom anbody picking agaist sweet pea. let alone letting that **** go. so i'll put it this way the sweet peat that lost to tito, dlh and and the one that fought the first rivera fight(although he won) loses to the shane mosely that beat DLH. although he did swork at 147 beating Mgrit. rviera(2x) and KOing huertadao( wich was great) mosley would land on him enough to sway the judges his way

i dont think thats a fair comparison, the pea that fought tito, dlh and rivera was past it (You could make the argument that pea's entire career at 147 was when he was past it) but those fights definitely... but if you compare the pea first moving up to 147 (v mcgirt) and the mosley first moving up to 147 (v dlh), you would have a hell of a fight between two of the most athletically gifted and talented fighters to ever lace em up, and i give the slight but clear edge to whitaker based on his defense and psychological toughness... handspeed and reflexes and chin i would say are equal... mosley has the edge in power but no one ever landed on whitaker with any consistency so i don't know if he could exploit that edge

i would say pea nicks a close but clear decision, like 115-113 or 116-112

I don't think Mosley was all that better at 147 than McGirt, and his style is a bit more suited for Pea than Buddy's.

Whitaker by clear UD, a good competitive fight but certainly a Whitaker win.
