Well yeah, if the fighter being picked over him is Shane Mosley. Well you should've specified that we were talking about a past prime/shot version of Pea. In that case it's more plausible that Shane would've won, sure. A prime Pea is a much different deal though. He also beat the most avoided 154 pounder of the era in Julio Cesar Vasquez, as well as some no-name called Chavez. Again, you're simplifying your answer to "Mosley would land more punches, therefore he'd win", without any thought as to how he'd go about it, and worse, you're using a past prime/shot version of Whitaker to judge him against. The Whitaker of the Chavez, McGirt, and Cardona fights would've handily beaten Shane.
This will be a better fight at 135.But Sweet pea win's at any weight this guy was just a master at boxing.:deal
NO IM NOT SIMPLIFYING ANYTHING. MOSELY WOULD GE A CLOSE SD. BECUSE HE WOULDLAND THE MOST EFFECTIVE PUNCHES . WHICH ALOT OF JUDGES DO GO FOR.:hi:
Whitaker was slick. Mosley was not slick. Therefore Whitaker would win. The argument I just put forth was about as persuasive as the material you've given in this thread.
I agree with the above can i also add... I think mentality has a lot to do with this fight. We have seen in the past that Mosley loses his focus when things don't go his way. THIS WILL PLAY RIGHT INTO WHITAKERS HANDS. Whitaker makes you miss, he clowns, gives you angles and tags you with that jab. I have seen Mosley frustrated by lesser fighters. Psychological edge to Whitaker
Mosley is one of my favorite fighters, but can't see any reason why Sweetpea wouldn't out point him to a UD.
Chavez was slower and older by that fight. Had the fight taken place in 90 like it was supposed to, it would have been a better Chavez. Only then would he have pressured Pea successfully. But yes Pea takes a decision easily against Mosley. At 135 Mosley had the power to hurt Pea though.
Mosley was a stronger, overall more comfortable fighter at WW than he was at LW, contrary to popular belief. He had the same power to hurt him there, just never the skills or the style. As for Chavez, it may've been closer a few years earlier, but you have to remember that Whitaker himself was also better the further back and the lower down in weight you do.
Even thought Pernell was a crafty fighter I feel Mosleys hand speed will allow him to dictate the pace through out the fight a get a UD. He also had the power to keep him honest.
