I wouldn't put Crawford above Buddy McGirt yet in terms of skill or 147. Let alone Pea, who would beat him at any weight.
Pernell had 4 losses win his career and a draw in his career. The draw was a robbery, the lost to Oscar was a robbery, a lost to Tito by decision when Tito was at his peak knocking people out while Pernell was in the twilight , a loss to Jose Ramirez that I honestly know nothing about other than it was a split decision and a loss in the last fight of his career. My point is PK could legit have only 2 losses and both of those were at the end of his career. Other than that he pretty much beat everyone he faced.
Gamboa was quick but are you saying Gamboa would have beaten Whitaker? Because if you are, you are wrong. It takes more than quickness or GRJ would be PFP. Gamboa was a good fighter but not an ATG. Sweet Pea would have schooled him. Gamboa would have won a round or two but it would not have been a close fight. I would also take HCC over Gamboa. Gamboa always frustrated me. He had great physical abilities but never made the most of them. It was a decent win for Crawford but nothing special.
The more I think about it the more I believe there isnt a guy 140 and below that beats a prime PW. The dude was that good. A prime Duran v PW would be incredible.
No argument from me. Check out his fights before drugs dulled his skills. He was such a smart and talented fighter. Prime Pernell was my favorite fighter of his era.
I think I favour Pea over almost anyone at 135. Maybe Duran beats him. At 140 there are more guys who could beat him but he would be a problem for anyone. I think Duran, Taylor, mantequilla, Pac, Floyd Pryor and maybe even Amir Khan would give him problems in a fight. Crawford would as well but dont know if its enough to beat the ultimate defensive boxer.
