Pernell was too fluid to lose to Loma. While Loma has great footwork, he’s stiff in comparison. Pernell had great footwork and incredible ability to contort his body to make him elusive. Both were great technical fighters but I’d go with Pernell based on what the ability of his body allows him to do. Sweet Pea made defense exciting.
A prime 135 Shane Mosley would have beat Loma up at 135, Oscar too. Simply because Loma isn't really a lightweight, not big enough to live with that level of opposition at 135.
Good fight but I think Pernell was too big. Two very skilled fighters and I don’t think it would be easy for either man. I’m a fan of both guys but Pernell was a true LW who eventually grew into welterweight. Loma is a 126 or 130 pounder fighting bigger guys at 135 because it pays much better. There is no way Loma could blow up to Welter and be competitive. In terms of skill, both guys are/were elites.
you are 1/3 right, too big. I don’t have a color TV and Loma looks black to me. Maybe I need to adjust the setttings.
Young Loma might had outboxed Oscar in both, pro and ammy fights. If he after 2 Oly games in adults ranks was able easily to make 126 lbs weight in, yeah....... Loma looks 130 lbs not 135 lbs division material now. PW most likely will win current Loma version via UD win.
No way he'd outbox Oscar ay 135. The LW Oscar was WAY too big and hit like a mack truck. He'd be at least 145, if not heavier, on fight night.
