I know he beat frankie randall has an amatuer. Is there any other well known fighter that he fought during his amatuer days from 82-84. Also, who are the guys that beat him and has he ever been stopped.

Hector Camacho, who Whitaker "beat the **** out of" at Kronk Gym according to Manny Steward.

    Also:

Went 4-1 against two time gold medalist Angel Herrera of Cuba from 82-84.
Probably would have fought him for the gold medal in the 84 Olympics if Cuba didn't boycott the games.

The only other fighter he lost to from 82-84 was American Joey Belinc. He won a series with Belinc 2-1 to get a spot in the Olympic team.

Going off his interview in KO mag in 1990, Whitaker thinks that he was robbed against Belinc and that he wasn't given the decision because they neded guys to come out and fight again the next night (Whitaker won the first fight, and then he felt he was robbed of the second fight so that he would come back for the third night, i.e. so that they had some fights to showcase to the patrons).

Apparently he was so distraught at not getting the decision after working so hard for it that he packed his bags and was ready to depart, giving up hopes of fighting in the Olympics.

Whitaker changed his mind when his family and girlfriend urged him to continue, in particular his mother going up to him and telling him that he had promised her something (a gold medal). Lou Duva was also instrumental, taking Whitaker aside and giving him some pointers on how to beat Belinc. Whilst Whitaker got revenge in the third fight, he felt he fought better the night he lost to Belinc.

According to brownpimp, Camacho actually beat the **** out of Whitaker, because Redrooster(who's favorite fighter along with Norris is Camacho) said so.

Yeah and they actually had to stop the fight to protect Whitaker, and that was said to have taken place a couple of years AFTER Whitaker turned pro.

Hopefully the magazine Rooster read that in pops up one day so we can verify it.

I've got a feeling it's an extremely rare edition :D

Rooster would say anything to favour one of fighters.
