This content is protected One of the best to ever do it but a guy who in recent times is remembered by some as a guy with unique defense rather than the master boxer that he was. Also how do you see a fight between prime Whittaker and prime Mayweather going? When you look at their compubox number, Whittaker for instance landed 322 punches over 12 rounds against the then number one pound for pound fighter in the world Julio Cesar Chavez. Mayweather by contrast landed 188 punches against Zab Judah, a fight in which he fought in an uncharacteristically aggressive style. I find it hard to look at their comparative work rates and see Mayweather winning a decision. It's possible he could get work done with his straight right hand and potentially try to use a reach advantage something which was rarely tried against Whittaker but I'd make Whittaker the favourite personally.
Pea against Floyd? At Lightweight I couldn't really call it. Maybe I'd give the absolute narrowest of edges to Pea as I think in terms of style he's slightly further removed than anything Mayweather fought at 135 or lower than vice versa, but essentially I'd have it as a 50:50. At Welter, though, I'd definitely go with Floyd. He was much more solid at 147 than Whitaker was and grew into the weight well. He obviously couldn't punch with as much authority as he'd done from 130 to 140, and he became a bit less adventurous, but in terms of strength, balance, movement, conditioning etc. it had no adverse effects. Whitaker, on the other hand, never looked quite the same at 147 as he had done at 135, for me, the McGirt rematch aside. Always looked a bit small and undernourished at the weight, a bit more off-balance and prone to flash knockdowns, just not quite as sharp in general. Still a brilliant Welterweight (and still good enough to dethrone a good titlist at 154 in Vasquez, lest we forget), but just that little bit missing which made him a top three Lightweight of all time (in my opinion). Also trimmed down a lot of his attacking arsenal at 147 and was more content to use the jab to dictate. I see Mayweather winning a close one at Welterweight more often than not.
I agree on that part but I think Whittaker was bigger at 147 than people remember. Mayweather had a bigger frame so you could argue he carried the weight better. Whittaker carried more in terms of muscle and fat though, he actually weighed 5 pounds more than De La Hoya for their fight.
It is a close fight , could go either way, I'll take Pea working off his jab with the higher work rate
