I agree, but you can nit pick a few different time scales to illustrate your point.

But as a whole, I think the division was stronger in the not so distant past.

IMHO, the best fighters from the 80's through to the 00's, were better than today's best HW's.

There is a huge flaw in your logic.

You claim that this era is weak. But it's not weak. It's strong. Because it has Wladimir Klitschko in it. If you mean all fighters in this era save Wladimir, that's fine. But then you can't include the top dogs from other eras when you make the comparasion.

In fact, it's quite weird to use the top dogs as a measure stick. The era of Mike Tyson might be defined by him, but Tyson is not representative for how HW's where at that point.

Very odd:huh Typically when people get nostalgic about era's past to **** on Wlad they dont throw out the 00's or 80's.

Especially considering he's the guy that emerged as the best of the 00's after the quagmire that popped up after Lennox and Vitali retired...It's gotten to the point where he's ruled so long, people forget he was a top heavyweight in the eras they say he couldn't last in.

It isn't really that strong, because Wlad doesn't have much, if any, competition at the moment.

Now is that because Wlad is the GOAT, or is it because the likes of Povetkin are seen as his main opposition?

Wlad hasn't lost in a decade.

So pick the versions of Wlad from 2004-2014.

If he'd have fought in the 80's, could he have gone undefeated for ten years, without serious competition?

If he was in the 90's, could he have gone ten years undefeated, without serious competition?

If he was in the 00's, could he have gone ten years undefeated, without much competition?

I think we know the answers.

I'm not trying to pull him down, and I think he's a very good/great fighter.

But his dominance doesn't impress me as much as it does other people, because I don't think the era that he's dominating is particularly strong.

    I'm 34.

    I'm not shitting on Wlad.

    He's a great champion.

But I think his era is weak.

That's fine. But you need to take into account that Wlads era is a lot longer than most others. Povetkin is hardly one of his more noteable wins. Fighters like Sultan Ibragimov, Samuel Peter, David Haye, Lamon Brewster, Chris Byrd, Hasim Rahman and Tony Thompson are more like it.

I can't really see which of Mike Tysons victims that would beat or seriously trouble prime Wlad, to be honest.

Have you also forgotten that he was beat three times by non great fighters, and two of those losses were when he was 27 and 28?

He only avenged one of them.

He wasn't a great HW in the 90's.

He wasn't a great HW in the 00's.

For the last ten years he's dominated.

But again, that's to do with the era being weak, as well as him being a good fighter.

Right, we know how Byrd, Rahman and Brewster faired in the early eras when they were younger.

How do you think Haye and Ibrag had've done in the 80's and 90's?

You'd think with today's technology, that someone would have built a time machine by now?

Pity Doc Brown's not here now with his Delorean.

    Ha!

Could you imagine if we could all borrow it?

Ali vs Louis would be my first choice.

But there's so many fights I'd love to have seen.
