One, there are no official numbers. Fight Hype is a biased website with a clear agenda, so keep that in mind. Now, please keep in perspective the following: - Lemieux is an absolute no name and was unknown by casuals - HBO spent literally zero promotion on this fight. There was only one 15 minutes "Road To" and then a 15 minute face-off. That is it. Now, compare that to Canelo/Cotto who are getting face-off, 24/7 hr-long series, etc. - This is the first non-Mayweather or Pacquiao PPV since fans were ripped off from May 2nd, which has severely hurt the market. Proof, refer back to Mayweather/Berto's buys. I've had a feeling it'd hit around 200K, and I still think it will. For a Khazak who still is on the cusp of breaking mainstream in his first PPV debut against an unknown star after little promotion and the May 2 rip-off... you have to keep it in perspective. Mayweather and Pacquiao literally killed the PPV market, and it'll be a good amount of months until it is forgiven. With that said, I'd like to add: 1) If you bought Mayweather/Berto and didn't buy GGG/Lemieux while calling GGG's "non-PPV worthy" please do the world a favor and drive off a cliff. 2) Keep in mind Pacquiao did only 200K buys against Diaz and that was way into himself being a star. 3) This content is protected : I don't care about the PPV buys, because at the end of the day IT HAD TO BE ON PPV FOR THE FIGHT TO HAPPEN. Lemieux wouldn't get in the ring unless it was for ridiculous money (1.5 million), and with that kind of purse and HBO's budget, they had to put it on PPV to cover the expenses. So, stop complaining. It wasn't PPV worthy. It was PPV necessary. And if you want to support Golovkin into continue getting unification bouts, then you should've bought the fight because it's only that type of money that will entice opponents to get in the ring with him. GET IT? I've always said Canelo/GGG will be the fight to send the winner into PPV-star mainstream. I think after Canelo's domination of Cotto, fans will be coaxed into being more willing to buy PPV again. So, Canelo is already known. Then GGG who's receiving a lot more exposure. Add those two and Canelo/GGG will definitely be the fight that sends the winner to become the new face of boxing. :thumbsup
I want bumlovkin to move and take the short money to fight Ward if has any *****. lil g is just a great white hype backed by snake oil salesmen and racists like trump. lil g is a coward and a fraud!
I also saw this on TStreet Controversy and on the sites like Fight Hub. 150,000 sold is not bad for a bum fight. Deontay Wilder should also follow suit.
It didn't have to be on PPV for the fight to happen. That's nonsense. It was put on PPV because it was thought that a lot of people would pay to see it. In the old days, only really important fights were PPV. Hopefully we are heading back in that direction.
You are one deluded whiteboy. lil G is nothing but hype. The man is a coward running from Andre Ward.
No, it had to be a on PPV. This has already been said. Do you realize how much money was offered to Lemieux? GGG was paid 2 million, Lemieux was paid 1.5 million. That's ridiculous. That's an incredible amount of money that had to be compensated through PPV.
Even if it is 150,000 I still think that's a success. Marquez vs Fedchenko was a PPV and no one even talked about at all or even seemed to know about it, and to my knowledge I don't think HBO ever released the numbers for it, and this is after he headline PPV's with Floyd. Those are decent numbers all things considered. Cotto-Martinez only had 350K buys an they're both relatively well known P4P names.
The numbers keep going up. First Shockmaster says 57K now Fight hype says 150K........... What sort of vile misfit gloats over lower than expected PPV numbers for a first timer. I swear if it was made public that GGG had a painful bowel movement these creatures would sqeal like even bigger swine than they already happen to be.
That makes sense. Cotto and Martinez may have respectively brought in 150,000 each. Golovkin brought in 150K by himself, lol. Add in a relatively well-known opponent with him that'd be competitive, and it'd probably do about 300K. GGG/Ward would do about that much. Maybe a little less.
That means that the fighters were paid too much. The market should determine how much the product is worth. HBO overpaid. I bet they will put a better product out there next time.
TStreet has never been a big fan of Floyd during the Pac rivalry. I guess every Black man is out to hate GGG in accordance to you?:-(
