I remember reading that he carried on boxing even when he was almost completely blind. He'd always been a good infighter so he would just sort of feel around for his opponent and when he found them he'd get in close and stay there.
Herman was outstanding, and his stellar career was capped by that win over the brilliant Jimmy Wilde.
