Because a film director is a credible boxing source.

It´s sparring, things happen. I have boxed circles around better boxers, simply because they were trying out something different. I have myself been caught lacking because it´s sparring, and we usually don´t give it a 100%.

He saw it, in the boxing gym that he co-founded and spends a lot of time in, because he's a very sports obsessed and sports oriented film director. He even produced the show "On Freddie Roach." So tell me, why the **** would he lie about it?

This is the fairest reply here.

That said, I think people have been sleeping on Bivol's power for a long time. When he sets his feet and lets loose, he hits pretty hard.

I literally came here to say that Peter Berg is one of those celebs that's fairly deep into boxing culture, beat me to it

Sparring doesn’t matter much. I used to be really high on Olekandr Teslenko on here because I saw him brutally KO a few sparring partners in the gym and give Simon Kean a beating who was our country’s best HW for a few years. Yet his pro career never amounted to anything.

Nail on the head. There are many things going on during sparring. As you mentioned, a guy trying on something new. Sometimes guys get in there after training, or fresh sparring partners rotate in, so you have a fresh body in against the guy who has gone 8-9 rounds. That's why, without proper context, it's impossible to use a sparring secession as a gauge to pick who would win in a real match.

Only time I ever got knocked down that couldn’t be blamed on balance was sparring against a guy with way less experience than myself and I was being lackadaisical. I still remember getting my lights turned off for a millisecond then seeing my arms stretched out in front of me as I crashed onto my back actively thinking: “I can’t believe this MFer of all people just knocked me down for the first time.”

I can imagine it’s happened to far more talented and experienced fighters than myself.

Good post bro.. sparring legitimately means almost nothing. An example of when I think it means something is when it comes to true gifted power punchers… I think when a guy knows a guy can REALLY crack, it has a more lasting psychological impact on them…

For evidence of this, note the way Shakur and Haney talk about ANY potential opponent with extreme confidence - compared to how they speak in a more measured way when Tanks name is brought up…

Tanks got to them before - I’ve thought this for years, hearing them talk, it was funny to hear Tank say more or less the same thing in an interview the other day.
