    I agree.

BUT - why wasn't the 'penalty kick in the last minute' on VITALY's mind? After 4 years there is much more to suggest that he would definitely have retired had he lost. He put far more on the line - never having actually been beaten (barring ijury).

Why wasn't 'everything much more difficult for him too then if we accept all these different excuses?

Bottom line is - Vitaly deserves all the credit he can get. To most people the Peter fight looked far from easy given Vitaly's uncertain form, rust etc. And he absolutly .. well - if Peter RIPPED the belt from Vitaly in the presser, Vitaly RIPPER Peter's balls clean off in the fight. Beautiful to watch and I do not agree with downgrading his performance.

Firstly, Vitali is generally mentally tougher than Wlad. Wlad always gives the impression of a bit of anxiousness in the ring since Sanders, he seems not to completely trust himself or rather he experienced the hard way that he is not invulnerable and fights accordingly. Vitali didn't have those experiences, even in his losses he looked good and gave a good account of himself so he has no reason to doubt his fighting ability like Wlad seems occasionally to do when things don't go exactly his way.

Secondly Wlad's career was on the line in the fight against Peter, a loss would have been an immense blow. Vitali on the other hand really had nothing to lose but a lot to gain. If he had lost, it would have been just regarded as another failed comeback attempt of an aged fighter who was shot. But coming back after 4 years, completely schooling and shutting out a reigning, active champion in his prime who was regarded by some as the No. 2 in the division and making boxing history with his brother as the only siblings to hold world titles at the same time was really worth the try.

So you refuse to give Vitaly the respect he deserves?

Not even for ebing 37 y. and showing an iron-will (when his brother couldn't).
Nor for anything else he did in there?

Ask yourself - could Wlad (our second best HW in the World) have done this? Come back after four year and demolished Peter? No, he couldn't demolish anything back when he was young and fresh and had no "no deafeats' to protect. Had Wlad lost on TKO everyone would have just said "yeah, that Wlad - loose some win some".

Unfortunately guys like you (whether that is your aim or not) help the people that really hate Vitaly and in 10 years will say "he met noone, and that return of his was pathetic and proves nothing. Vitaly is a B fighter at best". The will have their support from you - even if you disagree with their conclusion - you are helping them by knocking Vitaly's opponents down and not giving Vitaly the credit he deserves.

I for one didn´t want to take anything away from Vitali when i made the penalty kick reference...it just explains Wladimirs "timid" performance against Peter for me...
Vitali just has those nerves of steel. He seems to be never in doubt about himself and his abilities...i find this almost inspirational...he even said this morning in an interview on RTL that he had much pressure because "You´re only as good as your last fight."He said something to the effect of putting the way people remember him in joepardy which makes his accomplishment and his performance even more remarkable.
I have nothing put respect for Vitali!

Nah, I give Vitali a lot of respect for this impressive performance but I always said that Peter is really not a skilled fighter, he has a lot of raw power but can't deliver it against top opposition due to his poor skills and his only effective punch is the punch to the back of the head. If Vitali was anything other than totally shot he could not lose that fight, bare a freak incident. It's a stylistic match-up that heavily favours him, Peter had really nothing going for him besides Vitalis long layoff. I was very happy with Vitali's performance but I'm not hyping Peter as something he is not.

It is inspirational. Vitaly has paved his own way and is much - much - betterthan the secodn best. Even his brother.

    He should get respect.

    Why?

Because noone - N O O N E - has ever done what he did to Peter. No matter how primitive Peter is - fact is that noone had ever done this to Peter. Wlad didn't have the aura, punch, precision, and will to keep Peter honest. Vitaly did. Coming back at 37 and outclassing the WBC champion deserves respect. No matter what one thinks of the WBC champion - coming back like that deserves respect. Coming back in absolute top shape demands respect. Beating Peter like that deserves respect - because no matter how easy Peter looks on paper - noone else has been able to do anything near this to Peter. Hell, Vitaly made the Nigerian Nightmare weep.... that demands respect. Again - no matter how simple Peter looks on paper noone has been able to do anything near what a 37 year old did in his comeback after 4 years. Respect is due.

You can always find refuge in the qualifying phrases, "I suspect" and "I don't believe."
