Why is Adam writing another book on Sullivan? I missed that.

Don't know. Sullivan is a pretty fascinating subject.

I guess it was more interesting that writing one on Jess Willard.

His existing book redefied Sullivan for a generation of boxing researchers, and I thought that it would be the last word on the subject, at least for a while.

LetÂ’s say that we are more than interested!

I dont think you can say that this was the case with the Adelaide Advertiser. Realistically, the most likely explanation is either a trusted correspondent in England had a little too much to drink one day/night and wired the report or it was simply a mistake caused by incorrect telegram translation or human error.

For example, it may be that Sullivan and Jackson had a verbal debate in England and Jackson got the better of it, (such as by criticising him for not defending his title) yet Verbal got left out before the word sparring or something similar to this. We just dont know.

Most likely it is not anything at all, and even more likely, we would never know if it was because all evidence is gone. It is definitely certain that any spar was nothing serious.

Incidentally, i think that McVeys question about sullivan sparring coloured fighters is a good one. Does anyone know the answer?

I never saw this. The article says it took place in Baltimore Maryland. Something this big would be covered by more than one paper
